We absolutely love the style icons of the past when looking at design inspiration for the modern vintage bride. Another icon that brings a wealth of gorgeous style ideas is Audrey Hepburn. Being such a petite lady she can literally pull anything off when it comes to fashion, but the fabulous thing about the 50s and 60s is that so many of the designs look equally as fabulous on taller or even curvier girls!
Here are some of my favourite designs worn by Audrey Hepburn to take some inspiration from for both vintage inspired wedding dresses as well as vintage inspired bridesmaid dresses!
This is a real favourite! The gown worn by Audrey Hepburn in the movie Sabrina with it’s striking black embroidered flower details. It’s a fabulous design as the skirt with the train is actually detachable. This is a great concept as you get the more “traditional” look for the ceremony and photos and then at arrival at your reception you can have the overskirt removed and just wear the sleek column design. The other cute thing about this design is the ankle length skirt in the column dress which allows you to show off your shoes!
What a stunningly simple design this is with only a little touch of sparkle around the waist band. The matching long gloves are also the perfect accessory for this column design
The “Funny Face” dress is another absolutely stunning gown worn by Audrey. This is one of the most sought after designs when it comes to reproduction designs worn by Audrey Hepburn.
Ahhhh, the gown worn by Audrey Hepburn at the 1954 Oscars. Another absolutely gorgeous gown with all of the lace detail. Fabric covered belts are also becoming increasingly popular with vintage brides throughout Australia at the moment. This design is wonderful as it has quite a modest looking bodice at the front, but it then becomes thin spaghetti straps which run down the back to give a little unexpected design feature. Of course with guests looking at your back a bit during the ceremony it’s nice for them to have something other than a covered back and a row of buttons or a giant zipper to look at!
A unique alternative to the traditional train such as this back drape that starts from higher up is simply stunning
This is another lovely simple design that could be used for a wedding dress or a bridesmaid dress design.
This is an absolutely lovely design for bridesmaids, particularly in a black colour. The perfect length for her!
Bridesmaid dresses with a floral print are incredibly popular at the moment as then are often much more “wearable” again afterwards than a more evening-like dress. There are even an increasing number of brides who are choosing floral prints for their wedding dress – how lovely!
Suit-dresses are another very stylish option for the modern vintage bride and even in colours such as this lovely pale pink.
