It’s just over 2 weeks until we’re packing our Vintage Bride bags and heading to Coogee Bay Hotel for our very first vintage wedding fair in Sydney on Sunday 12th October.  We are busy finalising plans with a bunch of incredible wedding professionals (including a couple of businesses who scored the coveted front cover image of our current issue of Vintage Bride magazine!!!).  Who wouldn’t want to book a wedding professional who has graced the pages of a national vintage wedding magazine!?!?!

Don’t forget for the first 50 brides who head over and purchase their tickets in advance they have the option to select the “brides ticket” for no additional charge and receive a couple of back issues of our fabulous magazine as well as a helpful getting started booklet when they arrive!  Online ticket sales will be open until 5pm Friday 10th October for savvy brides who are keen to save $5 entry per person and zip through with their ticket already in their hot little hands on the day!

So sit back on this lovely Wednesday afternoon and find out a little more about some of our confirmed vintage wedding exhibitors.

Can you tell us a bit about being a celebrant?

Being a celebrant is an incredibly privileged position.  You are responsible for the legal marriage of the couple as well the conductor of the ceremony, which can set the tone for the entire day.  As a celebrant you wear many hats, stage manager, writer, counsellor, stylist, mistress of the ceremony.  It can certainly have its challenges, but there’s nothing more rewarding than to see it all come together and a happily married bride and groom at the end.

Where are you based and what areas do you service?

Currently I’m based in The Hills District of Sydney, but service all areas of Metropolitan Sydney and beyond.   Distance and destination weddings are very popular at the moment, so I’m on the road a lot to the South Coast, The Southern Highlands and The Hunter Valley & Central Coast.  I’m even booked for a ceremony in Fiji next year.

How would you describe your style?

My style is hard to describe, but I really aim to fit with the over-all vision of the bride and groom.  I’m a strong believer in authenticity in a ceremony and the style of each wedding should be indicative of the couple.  The more I get to know a couple the more I can develop a ceremony and vibe that reflects them.

What advice do you have for couples choosing their celebrant?

The best advice I can give is to choose a celebrant that you really connect with.  The journey you will be taking with this person to your wedding day is incredibly personal.  You need to feel immediately comfortable with them and that you can be completely honest and open.  If you trust them with this – go for it!

When should couples book with you at the very latest?

I’m usually booked-out 8-9 months in advance depending on the day and time of your wedding.  Book 12 x months ahead to be safe.

What is your favourite wedding story?

My favourite wedding story today is a recent brilliant surprise wedding.  I had snuck in to a beautiful harbour-side home at the prescribed time and hid in a room not far from the lounge.  Guests had been invited to an intimate Engagement Party, but most of them had the feeling that the bride and groom had already eloped as they’d recently been away on holiday.  The groom called everyone together and began his speech by letting them know ‘not to fear’ that they were not yet married and had finally set a date for their wedding (there was a rumble of excitement in the room).  Everyone present would be invited (they were even more thrilled).  The location would be near the harbour and they should note the date for the occasion (which happened to be that day’s date –silence as their brains were trying to think when that date was).  At which point, I walked into the room and introduced myself as the celebrant and assured them that the wedding was actually now!!  (Tears, excitement and congratulations all round).    We quickly rearranged the room and the bride and her dad ready to walk down the hallway (aisle).  As an extra-special moment the groom’s niece scratched-out “Here comes the bride” on her violin. Gold!!  Parents were surprised with readings to do and the lighting of candles in memory of loved ones.  It could not have been more perfect and a wedding never to be forgotten.

What do you love most about being a celebrant?

What I love most about being a celebrant and helping people make their wedding dreams into a reality.  Assisting them in celebrating their love for each other and the variety and creativity involved in working with so many different couples.  Every couple is unique and so is their wedding.  It never gets dull.

What can couples expect when they visit your stand?

Couples can meet me and to see if I’m the right celebrant to entrust with their wedding.  With ten years of experience behind me they can also pick my brains for loads of ideas and advice.

Why do you think photography is such an important part of a couple’s big day?

Because couples want the day to never end but when it does, the photos will be there to remind them of their special day.

What advice do you have for couples when they are thinking about their wedding photography?

Choose a photographer you whose work you love and that you feel will tell your story honestly. Also find a photographer who you have a good connection with. You spend the whole day with your photographer so make sure you’re a good match!

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Sydney - Strawberry Fields

Nan’s Button Buds

Can you tell us a bit about Nan’s Button Box Bouquets?

Nan’s Button Box Bouquets create bespoke bridal bouquets, button holes and bridal accessories. We use a range of materials including brooches, buttons, fabric, feathers and lace. It is run by two sisters and was founded three years ago after Katie decided she wanted to turn her love of Nan’s buttons into a heirloom bouquet for her wedding. Katie has a degree in Fine Arts and Lynsey a background in floristry, so we teamed up to offer brides alternative bouquet options. We have won several awards including Best New Floral Designer Sydney 2013 and 2014 and Most Popular Bouquet Designer (not made of flowers) –Sydney, and a ranking of second in this category in Australia and  8th Worldwide in 2014.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Sydney - Nans Button Buds

Where are you based and what areas do you service?

We are based in Blacktown but we send bouquets Australia wide.

Can you give us a run down on how to order your bouquets and what options brides have with you?

Brides get in contact with us and discuss what sort of bouquet they are after, their wedding theme and colour scheme. Our bouquets fall into three main categories, button bouquets, brooch bouquets or mixed media bouquets and we do have standard sizes (however as all of our bouquets are custom made the sizes can be altered to fit within budgets). We then work with the bride to create a design brief that they can have altered until they are happy with the final design. Then we get to work on the bouquet. The bouquet possibilities are pretty much endless!

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Sydney - Nans Button Buds

For last minute bookings – when do brides have to book in for your beautiful bouquets at the very latest?

At the very latest I would book in three and a half months before the wedding date. We have a lead time of approximately 10-12 weeks – this allows us plenty of time to source materials and hand wire every element of the bouquet. However, we often have a waiting list – and are already taking bookings for 2015 and 2016 wedding dates. We can get some rush orders done within a month, but this depends on the design and if we have the required materials in stock. Sometimes we have ex display bouquets that are ready for immediate shipping upon request.

What advice do you have for brides when they are thinking about their wedding bouquet?

Choose something that complements your wedding dress and overall theme of your wedding. Also think about the way your bouquet will look in photographs against your dress – for example a mixed media bouquet featuring mostly white materials will not stand out against a white wedding dress. Also, don’t be influenced by what people think – add a bit of you to your bouquet – even if that means adding star wars figurines! It is your day and your bouquet.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Sydney - Nans Button Buds

What is your favourite wedding story?

We had the pleasure of making bouquets for a couples surprise wedding. They invited all their friends and family to their engagement party – which turned out to be their wedding.

What do you love most about creating beautiful button bouquets?

We love that we get to be part of a couples’ special day and create a bouquet that is unique to them and can be passed down through the generations. One of our brides brought some brooches from her great grandmother to add to her bouquet when she was married early last year. We recently received an email from this bride with a photograph of her new born baby girl next to her bouquet. We were speechless!

Kate’s Cup of Tea

Can you tell us a bit about Kate’s Cup of Tea?

Kate’s Cup of Tea is a vintage crockery hire service, operating in Sydney since 2013. What started out as simply collecting beautiful vintage china, quickly became a whole lot more when I realised that it had become quite trendy to hire it for kitchen teas, etc. I had a potential business sitting right in my cupboards!

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Sydney - Kates Cup of TeaSolas Wedding & Portrait Photography

Where are you based and what areas do you service?

I am based in the Parramatta area, and service Sydney Metro.
Can you give us a run down on how to hire the goodies that you have and what options couples have with you?

Couples are free to hire as little or as much as they like, and I am always happy to put together a great package for them! All couples need to do, is send me an email or give me call – letting me know the details of their event and what items they are looking for. Of course I will be accepting bookings on the day too. Generally, brides are hiring my crockery for their kitchen tea or bridal shower, but I have quite done a few weddings as well.

Do you have a favourite vintage piece and what is the story behind it?

My favourite vintage piece would have to be my cream and gold Sadler teapot. It is an art deco style, and is just gorgeous. I picked it up on ebay from a seller in London, and looks lovely as a centrepiece with flowers.

What advice do you have for brides when they are thinking about their high tea styling?

The best advice I can give, is to always decide what the overall look is that they want to go for. It can be so easy to see lots of different things and want them all, but they don’t always pull together well. Luckily, my vintage crockery can be given a modern look with bright flowers and tablecloths, as well really topping off that vintage look.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Sydney - Kates Cup of Tea

What is your favourite wedding story?

Last year I hired my typewriter to a lovely couple who used it for their wedding guest book. Such a different idea, and really suits the vintage theme. It is a great way to engage guests and is a real talking piece!

What do you love most about styling beautiful high teas?

I just love the way everybody adds their own style to their high tea, and my vintage china always fits perfectly. I have styled large events in function centres, as well as intimate kitchen teas in my clients’ homes, and even with the same pieces, they all come together differently, with each having their own style. Something simple like a coloured table cloth, can give a different look to crisp white linen. Each bride-to-be has their own style, and I love that my crockery can always compliment it.
Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Sydney - Kates Cup of Tea

What can couples expect when they visit your stand?

Couples can expect to have a chat about their wedding and the ways that I can help them, or they can simply take a business card. Whatever works best for them. I will have some pieces on display to give an idea of what is available to them, and I will also have some photos of previous events if they would like to look.

Are you running any specials on the day?

On the day I will have flyers for couples to take away with them, and any subsequent bookings made will receive 10% off.

Can you tell us a bit about underatreehouse?

We are a photographic studio and husband/wife team made up of Chris – the photographer and Chantelle – a planner and event co-ordinator. Whilst most people come to us for photography, we have a wealth of experience in events and can help brides out with contacts and ideas should they want it too.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Sydney - underatreehouse

Do you travel for weddings?

Yes absolutely. We love to see new things and places so it doesn’t really matter where the wedding is.

How would you describe your style?

I like to think of our style as light, fresh and energetic. We are always open to ideas too if you want something unique.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Sydney - underatreehouse

Why do you think photography is such an important part of a couple’s big day?

It is the chance to have memories that you can keep forever. We didn’t get a professional photographer for our wedding (yes, we had friends too who were photographers and we should’ve know better) and it is something we have always regretted. Our friends were too busy enjoying themselves as well and now we just don’t have all pictures that we would like to look back on, the family shots, the artistic shots. It’s such a shame to go to all that effort and then not be able to look back on it in years to come.

What advice do you have for couples when they are thinking about their wedding photography?

You are going to spend more time with your photographer than anybody else on your wedding day, you need to get along well with them and enjoy their company. look for someone who shoots the type of images you like to look at too.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Sydney - underatreehouse

What do you love most about being a wedding photographer?

A wedding is a beautiful day. Everybody is happy, looks their best and wants to have a great time. What’s not to love?!

Do you have a favourite wedding photograph?  What is the story behind it?

To be honest I don’t. I probably have one favourite from every wedding I do, but I can’t pick one from them all.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Sydney - underatreehouse

What can couples expect when they visit your stand?

A friendly welcome. We don’t believe in the hard sell. If people like you and your work then we’ll be a good match.

Vanessa Louise Makeup Artist

Can you tell us a bit about Vanessa Louise Makeup Artist?

I have always had a passion for all things makeup and beauty. My career started with doing makeup and eyebrows for friends and family from a very young age. Whilst still at school I worked part-time as a beauty cosmetician it was not long after completion of my HSC that I was offered a scholarship at a reputable makeup academy in Sydney for a Certificate 5 in Makeup Artistry. Since then, I have created a deep desire and work ethic to constantly learn, develop and keep up to date with the products and trends from around the globe. I am now a mother of 2 cheeky little boys who keep me very busy and entertained. I love working with brides and their families working together for such a special moment in their lives it’s just beautiful.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Sydney - Vanessa Louise Makeup Artist

Where are you based and what areas do you service?

I’m based in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs of Rose Bay, however I willingly accommodate my makeup kit and services to a brides chosen location as I do love to travel and get out of the city every once in a while.

What advice do you have for brides choosing their wedding makeup?

Definitely have a makeup trial, make sure you are comfortable with your makeup artist and that you ask lots of questions, you really want your makeup artist to listen to your makeup needs. Have a clear direction of your bridal makeup expectations to show and explain to your makeup artist, It’s a really good idea to get inspiration pictures together people with the same skin color and hair color as the bride are best examples to show your makeup artist. Bridal makeup is best when you enhance your natural beauty if you have striking eyes then perhaps make your makeup features about detailed eye makeup think lashes if you have great lips and teeth then you might like to opt for a bright lip, it’s about keeping your makeup simple and not overdone, less is really more with bridal makeup, what you want to achieve is flawless lasting makeup that enhances your natural beauty not completely change your look with makeup. Be guided by your makeup artists but defiantly work together to achieve your desired look.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Sydney - Vanessa Louise Makeup Artist

How long should brides allow for makeup on the day?

This varies for each individual however as a basic guide I like to set 1 hour aside for my bride, this allows her to sit peacefully in my chair and have time to herself before the big day starts. I always over carter time by a few minutes on each person as I find time is never lost on a wedding day when I do this. I hate rushing and so do my clients. I am almost the person that closes the front door as the ladies leave the house. I am there till the very last minute for touch ups so each person is fresh faced before they are heading out door to the onslaught of camera flashes.

Do you have a particular hair & makeup style that you love for weddings?

I don’t think you can go past a beautiful soft romantic up style, these never date and are such a timeless look that suites every face shape.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Sydney - Vanessa Louise Makeup Artist

What is your favourite wedding story?

I honestly really couldn’t choose, each wedding that I have been part of over the years is special and beautiful.

What do you love most about being a makeup artist?

As a bridal makeup artist I really feel it an honor to be part of brides monumental day, they have chosen me to create their desired makeup look and its my absolute duty and pleasure to create the perfect and most memorable bridal makeup experience that I can to achieve this special moment for them and their bridal party.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Sydney - Vanessa Louise Makeup Artist

What can couples expect when they visit your stand?

My stand will be visually vintage luxe lots of pictures of past brides, candles and rustic bling. I will have a few new products to show off that I’m loving at the moment and defiantly will have my brides choice in lashes to show you all. I can’t wait.
