The Wandering Woodsman

Can you tell us a bit about The Wandering Woodsman?

The Wandering Woodsman is a vintage 1950s caravan that has been created with great parties in mind.  We like to call him “Woody” and he is a standout in the crowd with his unique shape and wood paneling.  Woody is also a very refined and charming gentleman that will look after the finer details at your event.  Woody & The Wandering Woodsman team will arrive at your event with everything you need to throw a jolly good and memorable party.

Where are you based and what areas do you service?

The Wandering Woodsman HQ is based in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.  Being a mobile bar we can service almost any area and location within the greater Melbourne Region.

Can you give us a run down on how to hire your lovely vintage caravan and what options couples have with you?

We are flexible with all our packages, they are tailored to each bride’s requirements.  We do not limit to weddings, we also hire out for engagement photo-shoots, hen’s & high tea parties.

Our Basic packages start with a minimum 3 hours bar service, which includes bar staff, glassware, and of course the caravan.  We also have a more tailored package, which includes custom stationery including menus, coasters and even branded glassware.  We can also offer custom gifts for guests, family of the bride and groom and bridal parties. In regards to styling the van, we will also work with your theme, colours and styles. The options are endless!

What advice do you have for couples when they are thinking about having a travelling bar at their wedding?

This will be an amazing day for the bride and groom and we want to keep it that way. We want the whole experience to be smooth and stress free for the couple as much as possible so they can focus on enjoying themselves, as the big day will go so quickly.  To minimise any issues occurring on the day we will do a site pre-check to make sure the van will fit and that the location is suitable, and that there will be no surprises like we actually need a crane to get him in there!

One thing to be mindful of is depending on the location you may need to meet license requirements, just something minor to consider and we will assist you in obtaining these if necessary.

What is your favourite wedding story?

My favourite wedding story is hearing about my grandparents wedding. It must be love, as they’re still together after 56 years. It always fascinates me how different things were back then and how times have changed.  I love hearing about them going out dancing and how my Grandad tried to impress my Grandma with his homing pigeons! The dress my Grandma wore was a similar 1950s style to the dress I wore on my wedding day.

What do you love most about hiring a lovely vintage caravan?

We love to celebrate and make people smile. The Wandering Woodsman is a handsome fellow and takes couples away to a place of happiness.  We will even let the happy newlyweds have a sneaky drink and photo on the chesterfield booth-seat inside the van.  Weddings are joyous occasions and we love having the opportunity to contribute and be part of your special day!

Pantalon de fleurs

Can you tell us a bit about Pantalon de fleurs?

My name is Michaela Young, I am a fully qualified florist , I have been fortunate enough to work for some amazing floral designers over the past twelve years, (in both Sydney and Melbourne) but have finally realised my dream of opening my own business called  “Pantalon de fleurs”. I work out of my home studio, and I supply and design flowers for small boutique weddings and special occasions.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Melbourne - Pantalon de fleurs

Where are you based and what areas do you service?

I am based in Camberwell, so I service all of the Melbourne metropolitan  area. I do the odd wedding in the Yarra Valley – and I have just booked a wedding in Leopold which is on the Bellarine Penninsula!  So I am more than happy to chat to couples about designing flowers for their special day…even if their venue is a little outside of Melbourne.

Do you have a favourite flower?

I have lots of favourites..all for different reasons..For fragrance I adore gardenias, daphne and violets. To work with, I would have to say hydrangea, and david austin (or any variety of) garden rose and for aesthetics and longevity, I love phalaenopsis orchids and flat seeded eucalypt foliages.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Melbourne - Pantalon de fleurs

For last minute bookings – when do couples have to book in for your beautiful flowers at the very latest?

Mmmm this is a tricky one..as especially weekends fill up very fast..I would have to say the earlier better..Ideally, I would probably recommend no later than 12 weeks before your wedding date. This allows time for checking that your wedding date is available, consults, sourcing specific flower varieties and suppliers, and any alterations or changes that are required. However if specific blooms are not a priority, and you are happy for me to follow your colour scheme and choose whatever is fresh, delicious, and available at market ..(and your date has not yet been booked).. then the time frame can come down to  4 or so weeks before your wedding date.

What advice do you have for couples when they are thinking about their wedding flowers?

Go with flowers that you love (for whatever reason)..Do some homework on designs you like, or aesthetic you would like to achieve, and check that the flowers you like will be in season at the time of your wedding.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Melbourne - Pantalon de fleurs

What do you love most about being a wedding florist?

I love being presented with all of the different ideas and concepts that couples have for their florals for their wedding day. I love that I get to discover new wedding venues and destinations, I love that I get to chat to suppliers about all the new varieties of blooms and foliages becoming available in the coming seasons, and I love that I get to create different looks with a medium I love that reflects every couple’s unique vision for their special day.

What can couples expect when they visit your stand?

A warm hello, Beautiful blooms presented in a myriad of ways, friendly chats and hopefully some fresh ideas.

Yes! Any couple who books “pantalon de fleurs” to design and create their wedding day blooms as a result of attending the vintage bride fair, will receive complimentary supply and design of their wedding cake flowers for their big day!

What advice do you have for brides choosing their wedding dress?

There are 3 things I would suggest to keep in mind:

  1. Always be true to your own style and don’t be afraid to go with something non-traditional or outside the box.
  2. Have a set budget firmly in mind when shopping for gowns, as this will keep the process on task. It will also help avoid disappointment if the dream dress blows out the budget.

For last minute bookings – When should brides book with you at the very latest?

3 months before the wedding date is the latest we will accept a bridal client.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Melbourne - Nancy Leung Couture

What do you love most about creating beautiful wedding dresses?

I love the intimate process of designing the brides ideal gown through all the stages, to the finished gown. The look of delight and happiness on my brides faces when they see themselves in their finished gown makes everything worthwhile.

What is your favourite wedding story?

My favorite wedding story so far has to be one of my brides from Newcastle, just months into the gown fitting process, found out that her and husband-to-be were having a baby. Luckily at her final fit and pickup, her belly barely showed and the dress fit perfectly, no one would have guessed. When it came to the speeches at the reception, they announced the happy news and everyone had an extra reason to celebrate that night, plus the bride didn’t have to make up excuses why she wasn’t drinking!

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Melbourne - Nancy Leung Couture

What can couples expect when they visit your stand?

Visiting couples will have the chance to meet and chat with the designer Nancy Leung and look through some Nancy Leung Couture signature gowns. This is a great opportunity to make a connection with Nancy and discover if there is a future gown waiting for the bride.

Are you running any specials on the day?

We have an exciting competition we’ll be running for the Vintage Fair, anyone that registers their details with me will go in the running to win a Nancy Leung Couture outfit, a gorgeous lace evening gown and sequin bolero. The winner will have the outfit made to her size.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Melbourne - Vintage Photobooth

Where are you based and what areas do you service?

With suppliers Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and many regional centres in between, we can provide you and your guests with the very best photobooth experience – no matter where you may be located.

Can you give us a run down on how to hire your photobooth and what options couples have with you?

To hire with Vintage Photobooths it is as easy as 1, 2, 3

Step 1 – Fill out a Vintage Photobooth Booking Form

Step 2 – Enjoy the Photobooth experience at your event hassle free

Step 3 – Make a coffee, sit back and relax flicking through your Guest Book Album created by the instant strips of the night and personal messages from your guests.

Vintage Photobooths is a hassle free process. We communicate with the venue to organise the procedures of the event. You and your guests don’t see the set up or break down of the booth. All you need to do is simply have fun and say cheese.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Melbourne - Vintage Photobooth

Why do you think a photobooth is such an important part of a couple’s big day?

Sometimes a memory isn’t enough for a event you want to remember a lifetime. Having a Photobooth with instant strips on the night, you will never forget the fun and event. Best part of it all, the strips will never fade, even years down the track.

A photobooth also brings 2 families together at a wedding, new staff talking at corporate function and a whole lot of laughs.

What advice do you have for couples when they are thinking about having a photobooth at their wedding?

A hire of a photobooth should be hassle free for the couple as they have enough on their plate organising the most special day of their lives. Also, why hire a photobooth when you can only fit 2 people when you can hire a Traditional Vintage Photobooth and squeeze in 4-8 people and of course your props. The more people in the one shot, the better the shot.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Melbourne - Vintage Photobooth

What do you love most about hiring a vintage photobooth?

Each time we chat to our staff, the one thing they always say is “you know the guests are having fun because they are laughing no stop in the booth” and this what we love the most about Vintage Photobooths, the fun, laughter, silly times it brings to weddings.

Do you have a favourite photobooth photo?  What is the story behind it?

The best photobooth photo we have is with 5 ladies in the booth with 5 generations between them. One lady was in a wheelchair and the bride thought we were unable to get her in, however the lady went into the booth with ease as there is no step for entry or exit. The photo was so special to the great, great grandmother and we go to witness that. She even had the photo blown up for her home.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Melbourne - Vintage Photobooth

What can couples expect when they visit your stand?

When couples see the booth, the first thing they can expect is a wow factor. The booth has red lush curtains with a black finish, definitely a vintage 1920’s feel. The booth is large enough to fit 4 people, squeeze in 8 but small enough to get up stairs, around tight areas and in small corridors.  The booth is always accompanied with an attendee to guide your guests on how to use the booth and to create a fun atmosphere.

Shamdoogie

Can you tell us a bit about Shamdoogie?

Shamdoogie is a collective of Melbourne’s finest jazz and soul musicians; as well as touring to places as diverse as the Edinburgh Festival and the Osaka Jazz Street, they share a passion for playing at weddings, entertaining people having the best day of their lives!

We’ve played over 500 weddings over the years and our aim is to help create a seamless flow from start to finish, so people feel like they’ve been in a delicious and entertaining bubble of love and fun. Shamdoogie is led by husband and wife team Kimba and Ryan.

We start the day with elegant jazz and finish with classics to fill the dance floor, without ever playing tunes that stray to the cheesy end. We don’t play Top 40 and you won’t find any songs from ‘Grease’, but you will be dancing to soul, funk, Motown and careful edits of some great pop tunes (think ‘Valerie’ and ‘Walking on Sunshine’ in the last set!)

We pride ourselves on our live sound. Everything we record we do in one take, with no overdubs or effects. What you hear is exactly what the band sounds like.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Melbourne - Shamdoogie

Do you travel for weddings?

We travel absolutely anywhere to bring our music to weddings of all persuasions!

How would you describe your style?

We’re all passionate jazz aficionados and our style reflects that; we specialise in 1920’s and Great Gatsby events, dressing in elegant versions of vintage attire (no feather boas please!). If your wedding is a more classic vintage style, the band dresses according to your vision for the day. Our style reflects our musical tastes. Our jazz is authentic because it’s what we listen to and play every day; our soul tunes groove because we all play and tour in contemporary musical acts.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Melbourne - Shamdoogie

Can you give us a run down on how to book Shamdoogie and what packages you offer for weddings?

Shamdoogie is represented by one of Melbourne’s premier agencies, JAG entertainment, led by the wonderful Judi. By discussing your needs with Judi, she’ll work to create the perfect combo for you. Our specialty is a duo for ceremony, a trio for canapés, the band for the early part of the reception and then DJ DJango to close the night. Our DJ is our guitarist, so you get the whole package without having to employ an extra person.

What advice do you have for couples when they are thinking about their wedding entertainment?

My advice is to check the credentials and experience of the bands you’re considering. Many bands may sound great in the studio and look sharp in their video, but do they understand the specific elements of a successful wedding reception? Can you read reviews and testimonials? Are you able to see the band live before you book? I also recommend speaking direct to the front person and getting a sense of their communication skills, enthusiasm and knowledge.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Melbourne - Shamdoogie

 What is your favourite song?

It’s so hard to choose just one! My favourite songs for the aisle are ‘When I see you smile’ by Bic Runga or ‘Into my arms’ by Nick Cave. For the signing I adore ‘This old Love’ by Lior, or ‘Little Trip to Heaven’ by Tom Waits. And for the first dance? I still can’t go past Etta James’s ‘At Last’ or for something quirky ‘Home’ By Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.

What do you love most about playing at weddings?

We love seeing people take the plunge and marry their one and only love! We love seeing family and friends get together to share in a super special moment. We love people dancing and living it up to our music. We also love that we have the privilege of playing at weddings, as musicians have done for thousands of years. We follow a long line of musicians!

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Melbourne - Shamdoogie

What can couples expect when they visit your stand?

They can expect a band looking beautifully vintage playing sweet jazz and classy classics to an extremely high standard. You can be assured of friendly faces, lots of information and the chance to imagine your day through the music.

Are you running any specials on the day?

We’re offering a free canapé set to anyone booking us on the day and $80 off our MC service.
