La Cake Petite

Can you tell us a bit about La Cake Petite?

La Cake Petite was born through my own love of creating specialised cakes for events, birthdays, weddings. My mum has been in the wedding cake business for many years, and I found that it was the one industry that never really evolved. Now brides are a lot more creative with their cakes and like to show their own individuality through every aspect of their wedding including their cake, so that is where we come in. Initially we began as mainly a cupcake wedding cake supplier, however now we offer a large range of options from full traditional wedding cakes, cupcake towers, to the more quirky, “individual dessert cakes”.

Where are you based and what areas do you service?

We are based in Birkdale, however we service the Brisbane and Gold Coast region. If services are required further afield, we are more than happy to consider these based on our previous commitments.

What kind of flavours do you offer?

I am going to be very broad here and say everything and anything! If you have a particular idea in mind, we are more than happy to work with our brides to create their perfect cake!

Do you have a favourite flavour or cake style?

Ha ha, I do, but I admit it changes daily! However, I love a good white chocolate mud cake with raspberry cream, or dark chocolate mud with chocolate orange ganache. In relation to style, most of the cakes we create are so different I am often saying “if I ever have another wedding day “THIS” is going to be my cake”. Then the following week I say the same about another design! I do like individual cakes however as they maintain their gorgeousness in presentation all the way to the table.

How early should couples book in for your delicious cakes?

The earlier the better and we suggest at least 6 months prior (especially in high season), however dont stress if your big day is closer than that! We are always willing to see what we can do!

What do you think are the upcoming trends for 2014/2015 weddings?

There is a definite resurgence in the Vintage/Rustic Style weddings, but I also think that 2015 will see a lot more brides becoming more “hands on” with their weddings, and also “Upcycling” old pieces into quirky table centrepieces, restyling of mums wedding dress, and tulle! You can NEVER have too much tulle at a wedding (well I dont think anyway!).

What advice do you have for couples when they are thinking about their cake?

Have an idea of your theme in mind when you have your cake consultation as we like to think of our cakes as “art installations” that connect with the overall theme of the day. We would hate to produce a cake that looks like it is for a completely different wedding! Also, think about whether you would like to retain any of the cake for future momentus occassions. Traditionally the top tier was kept either for the birth of your first child, or first wedding anniversary. If you are planning on keeping the top, this will need to be taken into consideration when working out accurate portion sizings.

What is your favourite wedding story?

Was for couple getting married on the Gold Coast. His mum was taking charge of all the arrangements as they both wanted to be completely surprised on the day. She showed up to her consultation with a tiny piece of orange ribbon, told me the flowers were going to be white Singapore orchids, and the bride likes cheesecake. That was it. She said that the rest was up to me and she didn’t even want to know what it would be until the day! We created a tower of mini cheesecakes individually wrapped in white chocolate with an orange bow, some topped with white persian fairy floss, some topped with a single orchid. The top cake was a full size cheesecake covered in white chocolate ganache and had a massive spray of orchids. When we were setting up, the mother came in and saw it, and cried she loved it so much, and although I wasn’t there, thanked me 1000 times in her speech. She range me several times after the big day for making the cake so amazing. So that would definitely have to be my most feel good moment, and was definitely the cornerstone for me to know I was where I was meant to be.

What do you love most about creating cakes?

Just having fun with it! I am always trying to anticipate the next phase of weddings, and come up with quirky new ideas to present to brides. There is nothing like the feeling of watching a cake come together as you had it pictured in your head.

What can couples expect when they visit your stand?

Do you travel for weddings?

Yes, We travel from Noosa to Byron to Toowoomba areas without any additional travel fees.  We are also happy to travel further or interstate.

How would you describe your style?

The early photographers (pre 70’s) , some would say vintage, were expert craftsman with light using classical techniques. Christopher Thomas Photography is one of the few studios left which use the same lighting techniques, a art sadly being lost in today’s contemporary styles. If you want images that won’t date, please visit the stand and have a chat to Chris.

What advice do you have for brides choosing their wedding hair and makeup?

Think about the style of your dress, the theme of your wedding and your own facial and hair features.  Pick something that reflects who you are- you don’t have to pick a crazy makeup or hair style just because it’s your wedding.

How early should brides book their hair and makeup?

As soon as you confirm your date- book your hair and makeup artist. Hair and makeup pay a huge feature in your wedding day and your wedding photos- you don’t want to leave it to the last minute.

SPARC Design

Can you tell us a bit about Sparc Design?

SPARC Design is an Australian company, which offers unique, high quality and hand-crafted products that are made in Australia.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - SPARC Design

What kind of displays do you offer?

SPARC Design offers a range of lighting displays ranging from beautiful solar lights, to free- standing neon can letters. We especially love creating unique neon pieces which the bride and groom have designed themselves. This option allows the SPARC piece to have significant meaning to the couple, making it unique to them. A wedding day creation that can be used as a spectacular feature piece at the ceremony and reception, incorporated into the wedding photos and then used as an everlasting memory in the couples home after the celebrations. The range of neon fonts are endless and a beautiful choice of colours and timber finishes are available. You dream it, we build it.

Where are you based and what areas do you service?

SPARC Design’s studio is based on beautiful Tamborine Mountain, in the Gold Coast Hinterland. We work with clients all over Australia and can have your special and unique hand crafted pieces delivered Australia-wide.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - SPARC Design

How early should brides look at ordering?

SPARC Design recommends that couples allow up to 6 weeks for the full design and creating process of their unique SPARC creation. This allows the bride and groom time to create a design, choose colours that will optimise the look and feel of their piece and of course, allow us time to hand craft their design specifically for them. Remember, no one piece is exactly the same.

What is your favourite wedding story?

Every wedding is special in its own way and each piece that we create for our weddings tells a story that is reflective of the bride and groom – we find them all fascinating.  We particularly love creating quirky words or statements that have a secret meaning to the couple, but leave others wondering.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - SPARC Design

What do you love most about creating your decorative displays?

SPARC Design loves creating these unique pieces, as we know each one holds meaning to the couple ordering. It signifies the start of a journey together. Our creations last a lifetime, and their use carries on even after the couple’s special day has past. A SPARC piece in the house creates beautiful ambient lighting for any room, and will always be a reminder of the special bond created on their wedding day.

What do you think are the upcoming trends for 2014/2015 weddings?

We feel the upcoming trends for 2014/2015 weddings is more of a minimalistic design approach. Brides are opting for more simple decoration schemes with a few unique ‘hero’pieces, such as our beautifully unique SPARC creations. This allows for all of the attention to be focussed upon the beautiful couple and those few designer pieces.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - SPARC Design

What can couples expect when they visit your stand?

Couples can expect a bright, creative and an extremely unique stand. It will be filled with lots of colour and one of a kind pieces, offering couples bold, quirky, stand out creations to light up the room on their special day.

Are you running any specials on the day?

SPARC currently has a competition running, which invites couples to get creative! We want to see unique designs that hold a significant meaning to the couple. The winner, whose design will be judged on creativity and significance, will get their neon creation made and mounted on a 50cm x 50 cm recycled timber box. Winners will be announced on the 24th November.  We love to see those creative juices flowing!

Can you tell us a bit about The Little Gingerbread Cottage?

The Little Gingerbread Cottage was established in 2011 using only the purest of ingredients to create our own traditional German Gingerbread.  In 2012 we took our delicious goodies to the Queensland National baking Industry and received first place for Inaugural Gingerbread House competition. Since then our gingerbread has travelled around the world from Australia to Germany, Switzerland, England and America and even to Afghanistan. Now in 2014 we are expanding the cottage and have created a range of new delights and flavours to share with the world.
