What is your favourite wedding story?

I enjoy all weddings. The most recent wedding that stands out was the reaction of the bride after I did her hair and makeup. She said “ I didn’t realise I could look this good”, followed by “You are awesome”. The bride and bridesmaid were so fun to work with and they really loved how I did their hair & makeup!

What do you love most about doing hair and makeup?

The different looks we can create! From natural, soft hair & makeup to dramatic, sleek hair & makeup. It’s amazing how hair and makeup can transform a person.

What do you think are the upcoming trends for 2014/2015 weddings?

How would you describe your style?

Natural, creative and unique are a few words I’d use to describe my work. My aim to the capture the moment as it happens and not how you imagine it. I do very little post-editing; I love to get the shot right the first time and to provide you with the beautiful raw shot.

How early should couples book with you?

I would suggest at least 6 months prior to your wedding date. If you’re after a September wedding I suggest you book ASAP, as dates are always limited.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Dawn Photography

Why do you think photography is such an important part of a couple’s big day?

We are there to perfectly capture the day’s events, to take photos of every singe bit of effort you have put in to create such an amazing day. It’s not only the ‘after wedding photos’ that you will look at forever and tell a story but it’s the tiny little handmade gifts you made, it’s the something blue and it’s your grandma as the flower girl. We may capture your sister rapping instead of doing her speech, or a bunch of flower petals thrown at you. Whatever we capture, you will have forever to share with friends, family and most importantly yourselves.

What advice do you have for couples when they are thinking about their photography?

Ensure that you find someone that’s a perfect fit, someone that’s talents and experience makes you feel confident. So please, ensure you meet up with them first, discuss what your after. Make your choice off their style and ensure you are 10000% happy.

What is your favourite thing about photography?

I love the feeling of capturing these unforgettable moments in people’s lives. I love expanding my skill set at every wedding and the challenge of something different.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Dawn Photography

Do you have a favourite wedding photograph?  What is the story behind it?

My favourite wedding photograph is a wedding I did 2 years ago when I was 8 months pregnant (Insane, I know!). I was close to giving up on my dream to become a wedding photographer; it was one of the last weddings I had booked before maternity leave. I decided I would sell my gear and focus on being a mummy. This couple and their kind words made me realise I can do it, I shouldn’t give up on something I want so badly. So after my beautiful daughter Ava was born and her birth complications, I realised I have to show her you can achieve your goals and you should fight for what you want.

What can couples expect when they visit your stand?

To meet me! Get to have a little sticky beak at some of my real weddings.

Are you running any specials on the day?

Sure will be, I will be handing out $100 OFF vouches. Plus! Limited FREE couple sessions. We also will have an amazing hair & makeup offer.

How early should brides look at ordering?

For custom orders – the earlier the better! I would suggest at least 2 months as I often source vintage lace from overseas.

What is your favourite wedding story?

Having a client bring me delicate lace pieces that had been her late grandmothers.  I carefully incorporated them into her wedding headpiece.  The end result was really special and the bride now has a heirloom piece to pass on to her children.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Marla Hats & Hairpieces

What do you love most about making accessories?

The whole process. There is something special about watching a piece come to life from beginning to end.

I think that we will continue to see a lot of lace and beading in classic pieces that will never date.

I got married in 2008 and guests who attended have since passed away or lost touch with us. At the very least, we will always have the memories and photos from the big day. It’s something I treasure.

Do you have a favourite flower?

My absolute favourite flower is hydrangea because of its beautiful vintage look and I just love how soft and fluffy it is and all the interesting colours it comes in!

How early should couples book in for your beautiful flowers?

We recommend couples get in touch as soon as they are ready to check if the date is still available, but definitely at least six months out from the wedding at the latest!

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Alba Roses

Dear & Tine Photography

What do you think are the upcoming trends for 2014/2015 weddings?

I think we will always see soft, pretty and romantic colours and styles for wedding flowers but brides are also being more adventurous and are loving vintage designs with an industrial twist, floral garlands and floral crowns are huge right now and hanging flowers, whether it be on an arbour at the ceremony or above the tables at the reception.

What advice do you have for couples when they are thinking about their wedding flowers?

I would suggest that couples think about their personalities and the things that define their relationship and their love for each other and try to reflect that in their weddings. It is so much more meaningful when you can see personal touches throughout the day and you can reflect this in your flowers, whether it be a favourite flower or one that has special significance to you or special ribbon or pins you want to bind your bouquet with.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Alba Roses

What is your favourite wedding story?

There are too many to choose! I just love weddings and seeing a bride in her dress makes me teary every single time. Just seeing the love a couple have for each other and the way they look at each other is so beautiful. I can’t pick a favourite because they are all so special in their own different way.

What do you love most about being a wedding florist?

I absolutely love the whole process from meeting the brides to working with them to create their dream wedding flowers! I love being able to design and create the flowers that a bride will carry with her on the most special day of her life, it is such an honour.

What can couples expect when they visit your stand?

Vintage, vintage and more vintage!! Old fashioned flowers such as peonies and roses with antique china and delicious loose-leaf tea.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - High Time for High Tea

What advice do you have for brides when they are organising a high tea?

Simply to call me and let me take all the hassle out of the process for you! I come to you and bring absolutely everything, including delicious food so you can sit back and enjoy your gorgeous high tea party without lifting a finger.

What is your favourite wedding story?

My own, naturally! I was married 12 years ago at the Lansdowne Club in Mayfair, Central London and the entire day was a dream. The Lansdowne Club is very art deco and suited my love of vintage perfectly, I could not have asked for a more beautiful venue or day. I think that is what started my inspiration to help other brides with a love of vintage to incorporate that theme into their own celebrations, whether that be their bridal shower, hen party or even the wedding day itself.

What do you love most about styling beautiful high teas?

I love the whole process – starting with a bare table and building it up into a thing of beauty with food, flowers, candles, antique china and linens. A beautifully styled table brings a real sense of occasion to any party, and is so rarely done these days that it always makes an event feel extra special.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - High Time for High Tea

What can couples expect when they visit your stand?

Couples can expect to see a small selection of my stunning vintage china and get an idea of the “shabby chic” theme I often use. The can also expect to meet me and get a sense of my passion for high tea and table styling and full details of what my service can provide. I very much look forward to meeting as many of the lovely vintage-obsessed brides as possible!

I am also looking forward to launching my new “Wedding Devonshire Tea” service at the fair. This service is for people who want to have a “tea party” aspect at their wedding, but not have it as the main meal. We will provide a table with our gorgeous vintage china and decorations and serve delicious, fresh scones with jam & cream and unlimited cups of tea for two hours either before or after the main meal, or you could use this service for your desert option. Come to the stand and say hi for further details! And don’t forget, we can fully cater a smaller wedding for up to 40 people.

How early should couples book your items?

Couples should book early to reserve their date, we have bookings up to a year in advance.

Do you have a favourite vintage piece and what is the story behind it?

Our pair of vintage ladders are my favourite, they are genuine solid timber painters ladders from the 1930’s and still have the faded original branding and text.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Lovely Occasions

What do you think are the upcoming trends for 2014/2015 weddings?

Couples are extending their weddings into full day events, with a ceremony in the early afternoon, and receptions often not starting until 6pm they are choosing to keep guests entertained with an afternoon of punch cocktails and lawn games, often picnic style.  This gives the bride and groom more time for photos and the opportunity to join in the afternoon fun with their guests – something most bride & grooms miss out on.
It is also a great way to keep guests amused in those ‘in-between’ hours, when guests are often left to themselves.

Dessert & food stations are still a big trend, instead of the normal lolly buffet, couples are offering their guests something different, and more unique to their own personalities such as a donut station, popcorn bar or wine and cheese station.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Lovely Occasions

What advice do you have for couples when they are thinking about their styling?

Incorporate pieces that mean something to you, your wedding is a celebration of the two of you and the things you like. Don’t stress if it doesn’t fit exactly into a specific theme.

What is your favourite wedding story?

I love all the unique stories that lead to a couple getting married – I love hearing all the details of how they met, or fell in love, or proposed, as these are often the stories that lead to them wanting to incorporate different elements into their wedding to make it more unique to them.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Lovely Occasions

What do you love most about being a wedding stylist?

Bringing our clients ideas to life! We love creating and sourcing those unique items that clients have seen somewhere before but never been able to find again. Incorporating the elements that mean so much to them into their special day is really rewarding.

What can couples expect when they visit your stand?

Expect to see a beautiful mini ceremony set up, with a drinks station, mason jars and our vintage lawn games – a visual display of a vintage garden ceremony.

Are you running any specials on the day?

Yes, with every ceremony & picnic lawn games package booked following the fair, brides will receive free hire of our vintage lace parasols set – a stunning addition to their photos (5 lace parasols and a lace hand fan valued at $125). The set is for hire only and conditions apply.

Get Married with Mary

Can you tell us a bit about being a celebrant?

Only people who are legally authorised to do so may solemnise marriages.  As a celebrant I have an important role which is critical to the parties to the marriage, not only because of its legal consequences, but also because of its central significance to them individually and as a couple.  The Attorney General’s Department set the rules and regulations in relation to the Marriage Act and these rules have changed considerably over the past 4 years.  All couples need to check that their celebrant is registered, authorised and as at the 1 July 2014 has paid the new registration fee.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Get Married With Mary

Where are you based and what areas do you service?

I am based at Karana Downs, Queensland and service areas within South East Queensland.

What advice do you have for couples choosing their celebrant?

It is important that couples check that their celebrant has all the relevant qualifications and registrations, and that they are up to date with the Attorney General’s Department.  Then choose someone who can understand your needs.  You want to make sure you are legally married when all the paperwork is submitted to Births, Deaths and Marriage, and this needs to happen within 14 days of the ceremony.

How early should couples book with you?

The Notice of Intention to Marry has to be filled in at least one calendar month before the wedding and no more than 18 months of ceremony date.

What is your favourite wedding story?

When I was asking the couples to do their vows, and I asked to groom for the response of “I will”, he looked at his best man and said “paper, rock or scissors”.  A moment of relief for him.

Get married with Mary_4

What do you love most about being a celebrant?

I love meeting couples of all ages who want a bit of fantasy for just one day.

What do you think are the upcoming trends for 2014/2015 weddings?

I think less will be more, especially with mature couples and blended family weddings.  This will be my demographic.

Are you running any specials on the day?

My special on the day will be a FREE 7 minute on the spot “Personality Profile.”  It is fun as well as informative.
