Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane – Part 1

We are so excited that it is only 4 weeks to go until our fabulous Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane.  This is our special baby as of course we are based in Brisbane and have so many fabulous local businesses who will be showcasing what they do best at our next event on Sunday 17th August from 10am to 3pm at the Broncos Leagues Club in Red Hill.

Tickets are already on sale via our events page and we are offering a special “brides ticket” for the first 50 brides to purchase their tickets online in advance that includes copies of our magazine and a handy little getting started wedding planner.  We’ve already sold several of these with only a very limited number remaining so be sure to jump on over and grab your tickets including your special brides ticket so you don’t miss out!

For the next 4 weeks, once a week we will be showcasing some of the awesome businesses that will be part of our lovely day so that you can all get to know a little bit about each of them before meeting with them to chat about your own exciting wedding plans!

Can you tell us a bit about being a celebrant?

I start every day by reciting my celebrants creed: Have fun, don’t be weird, wear a cool bow tie. Oh, I also am the guy that turns boyfriends and girlfriends into husbands and wives.

Joshua Withers

Where are you based and what areas do you service?

My wife and I have actually just moved to Palm Beach because we’re allergic to not being near the beach, but my office is in Fortitude Valley.  Both of those things don’t mean much because in the last month I’ve been in Melbourne city, Perth’s Swan Valley, Sydney’s Northern Beaches officiating ceremonies and in the next few months I’ll be in New York, Hamilton Island, and of course Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast, Byron Bay and Brisbane!

What advice do you have for couples choosing their celebrant?

There’s 10,000 of us walking this sun drenched land, so you get to choose one you like! Your celebrant is up there with you and your bridal party decide on a celebrant that’s awesome!

Joshua Withers

How early should couples book with you?

If it’s Saturday 3pm then get in now for 2016, but if you’re being a bit creative about how and when you celebrate your nuptials you’ve legally got to chat to a celebrant and do some paperwork before one month before your wedding.

What is your favourite wedding story?

Every single one, you can’t make me choose a favourite can you?

Joshua Withers

What do you love most about being a celebrant?

You know how some baristas hate syrups, and then some syrups know just how much caramel to use. I’m the guy in charge of the caramel syrup at your wedding. That’s really frikkin cool.

What do you think are the upcoming trends for 2014/2015 weddings?

From my point of view I’m seeing so so so many weddings at different times and places, times and places that really speak to where the couple are in life and who they are. So many Monday weddings, night weddings, surprise weddings and really intimate ceremonies with 10-20 people and the friends and wider family join them later. It’s a mixed bag of wedding awesomeness.

Joshua Withers

What can couples expect when they visit your stand?

Me being a smartass probably. Unless I just had a coffee then I’ll be all chilled and awesome.

Are you running any specials on the day?

Free hugs for every single attendee! They’re normally a cup of coffee each.

Style My Celebration

Can you tell us a bit about Style My Celebration?

Style My Celebration is a boutique styling company I started in 2010, specialising in bespoke dessert tables and lolly buffets for weddings and special occasions. Style My Celebration also offers wedding design, planning and on the day coordination.  I also love styling special events such as milestone birthdays and anniversary celebrations.  I love creating something unique and my service is entirely tailored to our clients’ requirements.

Timeless Tales Photography

Where are you based and what areas do you service?

Style My Celebration is a small, home based business servicing Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast.

What kind of sweet buffets do you offer?

Style My Celebration offers beautifully designed dessert tables and lolly buffets.  Client’s may also choose a combination of both petite desserts and confectionery and for the right event, a savoury element is also possible such as a styled cheese table.

Wedding Fair Brisbane - Style My Celebration

Dreamlife Photography

Do you have a favourite style or sweet?

This is very difficult because the sweets I offer for my tables are  hand-made by the finest Brisbane based suppliers and are all so amazing but if  I had to choose one sweet it would be the simple cupcake, vanilla flavour made with lots of butter and adorned with just the right amount of buttercream icing!  Yum!

In terms of style, I certainly love all things vintage as I get to use my beautiful range of serve ware such as my white hobnail and milk glass range, vintage crystal vases and lots of lovely vintage and personal touches.

How early should couples book in for your dessert tables and lolly buffets?

Usually 6 to 8 months is perfect.  Any less and they risk the date not only being taken with me but my dessert suppliers are also in demand and they book out early also

Wedding Fair Brisbane - Style My Celebration

Dreamlife Photography

What do you think are the upcoming trends for 2014/2015 weddings?

That’s a hard one because my personal opinion is that couple’s shouldn’t worry about trends and concentrate on designing a wedding that reflects who they are as a couple and include all the things they like.  Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in trends and weddings become a way of outdoing others, especially with many weddings being featured in social media.  I am getting married myself in 2015 and we are planning on incorporating all the things we love, even if some of them are a bit off-trend.  We’re also planning a very intimate wedding, which in essence will be a dinner party for 40!  We’re designing our own degustation menu with the chef, and we couldn’t be happier!!

What advice do you have for couples when they are thinking about their lolly buffets and dessert tables?

Ensure that all their favourites are included on the table!  We’ll go to the moon and back to source exactly what you love to eat as it’s your day!

Wedding Fair Brisbane - Style My Celebration

What is your favourite wedding story?

In 2012 I styled a rustic wedding for a couple at Sirromet Winery.  I had been on site setting up the centrepieces since 7am as they were so big they took over 8 hours start to finish, so I was lucky enough to be present when the couple first saw the reception styling.  My bride Amy literally jumped up and down in her big white gown as she looked down from the balcony onto the room. She looked at me with the biggest smile and came down stairs.  When she reached me I realised she was crying, she was so overwhelmed with the styling. I received the biggest hug from both Amy and her new husband as they told me in their wildest dreams they didn’t imagine the room would be that beautiful.  All the money in the world doesn’t get close to that feeling, that you’ve made the best day of someone’s lives just that little bit better through your creativity and hard work.

What do you love most about styling dessert and lolly buffets?

Creating something unique for each event that is over and above the initial client brief, I love to add in a few surprises!  I also love the beginning of the design phase as I mock up each table in my studio and usually change it at least 5 or 6 times before it’s perfect!

Wedding Fair Brisbane - Style My Celebration

What can couples expect when they visit your stand?

I will be showcasing a fully styled table so couples will see a selection of my serve ware range in addition to some of the other décor and props I use on our tables.  They’ll also get a feel for my personal approach, with handmade and personalised tent cards and labels and other little touches.

Paper Vintage Love

Can you tell us a bit about Paper Vintage Love? What products do you offer?

Paper Vintage Love is a wedding business specialising in creating handmade wedding bouquets, accessories and decorations from vintage music sheets, book pages and quality card stock. The range of products include bouquets, buttonholes, corsages, kissing balls, centrepieces, individual stems and roses. Wedding packages can be customised to match colour schemes, budgets and can be shipped Australia-wide!

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Paper Vintage Love

Where are you based and what areas do you service?

Paper Vintage Love is based in Rothwell, Brisbane. Orders can be shipped Australia-wide. Bride who live further away from Brisbane communicate via email/phone and also send colour samples of their dresses via post.

How would you describe your style?

I love to keep things simple, clean and elegant. I take great care in making every flower by hand and arranging them in the perfect place. However, I’m a vintage girl at heard and LOVE to use old music sheets and book pages to add an antique/vintage look to the bouquets.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Paper Vintage Love

How early should brides book in for your beautiful paper creations?

Brides should book in at the very latest, three months before their wedding date (for those who have short engagement periods!) However,  a four – six month time frame before their wedding date would be ideal. Bride’s can book in for a free consultation to discuss flowers and decorations for their special day.

What do you think are the upcoming trends for 2014/2015 weddings?

One of the trends I am seeing is the inclusion of handmade wedding decorations and bonbonniere’s, which adds a personal touch to the couple’s weddings.  Some ideas I’ve recently are hand-made wooden signs, ceremony programs,  calico and paper buntings, metal tins and jars painted and wrapped in string to be used as vases, home-made jams for bonbonniere’s. All of this reflects the bride and grooms character and adds a very personal touch to their wedding day.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Paper Vintage Love

What advice do you have for brides when they are thinking about their wedding bouquets?

Take into consideration the colour scheme of your wedding (and the colour the bridal party are wearing) when choosing your flowers. You want your flowers to complement the overall colour scheme.

Fresh flowers, or an alternative such as paper or fabric flowers? Both options have their benefits, however, if you want your flowers to last longer than your wedding day, paper/fabric flowers are the best option as they will look the same for many years to come! You also have the benefit of being able to choose specific colour tones and the inclusion of accessories (such as diamante/pearls/brooches) to be integrated into these types of bouquets.

What is your favourite wedding story?

One bride who ordered a wedding package through Paper Vintage Love had a passion for music and her fiancé’ was a teacher. They designed their wedding flowers to be made from both music sheets and book pages to represent their passions in life – I thought this was so beautiful! Similarly, I had a bride ask for her wedding flowers to be made from her favourite book series, Harry Potter!

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Paper Vintage Love

What do you love most about making beautiful vintage paper creations?

I love being able to make unique bouquets and accessories that match the desires of the bride. It’s fun experimenting with different colour schemes and trying out new techniques.

What can couples expect when they visit your stand?

They can expect to see lots of beautiful examples of paper flowers and wedding accessories to give them inspiration for their own wedding! Photos of different types of wedding packages will also be available for them to flick through 🙂

Rustic at Heart

Can you tell us a bit about Rustic at Heart?

Rustic at Heart started when Boy met Girl, a boy with a love for wood craft and the country and a girl with a passion for vintage collectables, design and all things events. It was a match made in heaven for us as Mr and Mrs and also for the Rustic at Heart.

Together we have combined our passions and created a business that delivers unique, rustic wooden designs for all elements of a wedding, hire items, table numbers, stationery, cake topper and centrepieces. We are continually adding new items to our range and love working with Brides and Hens parties to create something unique.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Rustic at Heart

Where are you based and what areas do you service?

We are based in Brisbane and love to work with couples across Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast. With a love of the country we also love to hear from couples who are looking at wedding a little to the west.

How would you describe your style?

We are all about the rustic, raw look of wood, twine and organic elements and have used that to create a collection of stationery, and styling props that can make an event a truly magic occasion. While we are passionate about the rustic, country and vintage styles we also love to dabble in something more modern and have a range of acrylic cake toppers and wedding invites that would suit a modern affair.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Rustic at Heart

What advice do you have for couples choosing their invitation suite or wedding decorations?

I think it is important to choose some elements or a style that represents them as a couple. Where they met, where they live, a hobby or a passion they share can provide the perfect details to the event making it truly speak of them as a couple. Your guests will feel like they are truly sharing a day dedicated to you as a couple if you focus on what makes you both the couple you are.

How early should couples look at booking in?

We like to spend some time designing the invitations or tailoring a styling package for our couples so recommend contacting us as soon as you start to plan your theme and style of the wedding. To order stationery we suggest contacting us at least a month before you want to send out your invitations. Due the detail of the wood etching process we allow four weeks from design to full etch and delivery.

However we are happy to work with Brides on tighter deadlines if required.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Rustic at Heart

What do you love most about making wedding invitations and cake toppers?

I love seeing something go from an on screen design to a gorgeous wood creation. Such a mood and theme can be created with these elements, like invites, table numbers, place cards, and the cake toppers. The little details are what will truly pull your style together on the day. We love working with a couple to follow a style through their invitations, styling and their cake.

What is your favourite wedding story?

I am a little biased with that one. I met my husband at my best friends wedding when I was her bridesmaid. It was a little cliché, eyes met across the room kind of story. But it just goes to show that if you set the mood just right, that romance might just rub off on your guests.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Rustic at Heart

What do you think are the upcoming trends for 2014/2015 weddings?

I think the refined woodland wedding theme will really start to take off along with the continued popularity of country farm weddings. Brides are really turning to outdoor spaces for their wedding venues and using natural and organic elements to create araw earthy romance to their day. I think we will start to see more vines, leaf patterns and tones of naturals and green.

Another trend I love seeing more of is the mix of bright bold flowers in a country setting like an outdoor picnic wedding. This is popping up more across SEQ and is gorgeous for a Spring or Summer wedding.

What can couples expect when they visit your stand in August?

We will be showcasing the variety of designs we have in our wedding stationery, cake toppers and hire items. Our range is broad but all based around our passion for wood and good design. We will be bringing along some of our new additions like our wooden LOVE marquee light and some of nature inspired centrepieces and stationery.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Rustic at Heart

Are you running any specials on the day?
All of our cake toppers at the expo will be reduced to $10. They usually range from $12 to $25 depending on style and material. We will also be selling some of our new hens range, something blue bouquet charms and our table number sets.

Cash only on the day.

Seven Silver Swans Photography is my baby. I started my business around 2 years ago now. I love everything vintage and DIY which is so popular at the moment. Thats why I love to take time to tailor my packages to each individual couple as everyone is different and values different things.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Seven Silver Swans

Do you travel for weddings?

I do!!! Whereever you want to go, I’ll be there. Up a mountain, down a cave, in the rain or in the snow.

How would you describe your style?

Hmmm…. I like to change it up a bit every now and then. I always go back to my love of vintage and all things pre-loved but I’m really enjoying the new minimalistic fresh look as well! Everyday i change it up a little bit. You can never stop progressing and growing as an individual, I think, and this shows in my images. Depending on the wedding theme and the couple’s personalities, I feel of the images changes. No run-of-the-mill photos here!

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Seven Silver Swans

How early should couples book with you?

As soon as you love me. I like to build a relationship with my couples and so a little ahead of time is great to build a rapport.

Why do you think photography is such an important part of a couple’s big day?

It’s the visual memories of one of the best days of your life!

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Seven Silver Swans

What advice do you have for couples when they are thinking about their photography?

Choose a photographer that speaks to you through their images. Choose someone that you feel will tell your story the way you want to remember it.

What is your favourite thing about photography?

I think it would have to be the joining of two families. That moment when your support network becomes all of those around you in that room. To know that all of those people are there to share in the happiness of your big day.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Seven Silver Swans

Do you have a favourite wedding photograph?  What is the story behind it?

The mother of the bride is such a big part of the day. It makes me excited to see my mum and share with her these special moments when that day comes. This image spoke to me personally, I think. I love the simplicity of the gesture but how powerful a mother’s reassuring touch can be.

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Seven Silver Swans

What can couples expect when they visit your stand in August?

To see me with  massive gawky smile on my face. Haha. I can’t wait to be representing myself doing what I love.

Are you running any specials on the day?

What advice do you have for brides choosing their jewellery/accessories?

Think about your theme, style and the image you are wanting to create, do you want talking pieces, wow factor, oohs and aahs as you walk down the aisle?  Unfortunately by choosing jewellery and accessories that all the brides are wearing won’t give you the wow factor.  Choosing custom made will ensure that you are able to achieve the unique beautiful theme you have dreamed of and having quality jewellery and accessories throughout the theme of the bridal party will ensure you are a bride that will be remembered.

How early should brides look at ordering?

We ask that you book an appointment with us at least 3 months before your wedding, actually once you have chosen your gowns you can make an appointment soon after.  We ask our bride to email photos before the appointment of their gown and their bridesmaids gowns and any themes that helps us to put together your wedding have including hair styles as we offer so much more at the appointment as we also offer styling advise as Michelle has many years in the wedding industry and she is very helpful and friendly.

What is your favourite wedding story?

We have been so very privileged to have so many beautiful brides and their family and friends come to our studio that is hard to pick just one, we have shared many beautiful moments and tears of joy and we are jut so honoured to be part of a brides journey to the alter.

One of our beautiful brides Bianca wanted to honour her Mum, her lovely Mum wore a circlet of flowers in her hair and Bianca wanted to have a modern version of this head piece, they bought in Mum’s 1970’s photo of her wedding.  Michelle designed and created a beautiful circlet hair piece in swarovski crystals (rhodium plated) and making delicate handmade pearl flowers with matching jewellery for Bianca and her bridesmaids.  Michelle felt such a privilege to share in this moment between mother and daughter to create something truly special for Bianca’s wedding.

What do you love most about jewellery/accessories?

Love is the right word, jewellery and accessories are truly special; they should be worn everyday as they just lift an outfit and make you look and feel fantastic.  We are big believers that you should wear your wedding jewellery and hair pieces any opportunity you can; to the races, out to dinner, why not dress up it is so much fun and how gorgeous does a woman look when she is accessorised – just fabulous!

Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane - Redki Wearable Art

Ethereal Photography

What do you think are the upcoming trends for 2014/2015 weddings?

Gowns – We are seeing that vintage brides are still very on trend and we love that sleeves are prominent, how elegant is a lace sleeve?  Sleeves are so beautiful on brides and with the trends we are seeing sleeves are back.  Other strong trends are: lovely ball gowns in soft chiffons and flowing big skirts; structured gowns with trumpet skirts falling beautifully creating a lovely silhouette; off the shoulder necklines with sleeves or loose cap sleeves falling off the shoulder; all the gowns are soft with lots of lace and beautiful beaded fabrics.

Jewellery and accessories – feature a fabulous hair piece or tiara, the bigger the better, when the veil comes off you have this incredible hair piece to show off and as photos are taken all night how beautiful you will look.  Add fabulous big crystal and pearl earrings and big beautiful cuff bracelets to finish off the gown, depending on the neckline a necklace can be added.

What can couples expect when they visit your stand in August?

We are always making new creations, so be prepared for fabulous!  When you visit our stand be mindful that we do custom make and can create you the most perfect jewellery and accessories for your special day.  We love what we do and you will also be welcomed with a smile; please share with us your story as we love to hear about your wedding.
