The Schoolhouse

“When planning this shoot, I immediately wanted to create the theoretical couple that would dream of this incredibly authentic, retro schoolhouse vibe wedding,” recalls Mud Goddess Photography on their inspiration behind this shoot.

“Ashley is an English teacher (hence the vintage copy of poems by Shakespeare and the Shakespeare quote on the chalkboard). Dustin teaches Social Studies and coaches basketball (the maps and globes are his big thing he loves to collect!).  They wanted their invitations to have the same shape as the vintage brooch given to Ashley by her grandmother, which she then attached to her bouquet. They thought jelly beans, apple pie and a s’mores cake would be the most fun things ever for their dessert table, since they are such big kids at heart. They are huge Wes Anderson fans (hence the Field Notes favors on each place setting!), love to go to antique fairs and on drives into the country on their weekends, and long summer vacations.”

“The dress is a 1950s formal dress that brings something unexpected to the table by being butter yellow. The tables are vintage lab tables, sanded just to the point where the original paint (and all the original graffiti) shows through. The custom florals are all in milk glass vases and the cake stands are depression and Fenton glass, respectively. In fact, everything is completely 100 percent vintage, excepting the invitation and cake topper, the favors themselves (styled with vintage clothespins and flashcards, though!) and of course the perishable items like the food and the flowers. The place settings, napkins, goblets and decanters on the bar are sourced directly from the flea markets and antique stores. The unique jewellery is made from antique silver spoons from her grandmother’s silver drawer and his ascot is a scarf that once belonged to his late mother. Every little detail adds up to be that perfect experience for their friends and family – the moments that truly showcase the start of their new family.”
