Renae & William’s Rustic Glamping Wedding

Renae & William are both outdoorsy, relaxed people who enjoy a few beverages and hanging out with our loved ones. When it came to their wedding day they wanted the vibe of the wedding to reflect this.  It was important for them that their friends and family could relax, unwind, drink, dance and be merry! The couple also love building, making things and being creative, so a great many of the parts of the wedding were handmade, including the bridal dress and the cakes.

“We chose the vendors that we had for the wedding because we thought that they would best match the ‘look’ and vibe of the wedding. We also wanted to work with relaxed, calm and happy people. “

“My dress… where do I start? I designed and made my own dress! I realised very quickly that the dresses I liked were very expensive, and I didn’t want to spend a great deal on something I would only wear once or which might get ruined in an outdoor wedding. So I made my mind up to at least attempt to make my own gown. I am no seamstress and have only the basic knowledge I picked up from my school sewing classes, but I am very determined once I set my mind to it. The skirt I was able to design and sew quite easily, but the bodice I had to redo four times before it was to a degree that I was happy with. It took me perhaps two weeks all up to complete. In the end it was something I made with my own creativity and my own hands, it wasn’t perfect, but it is something I am very proud of. Since the wedding, I have removed the bodice and turned it into a maxi skirt – I left the slight discolouration in the bottom of it that resulted from it dragging on the ground, so it now looks like a kind of ombre vintage lace maxi skirt and I love it!”

“We found One Day in Mind and We Are the Tsudons through Facebook posts that friends had liked. We had a look at their work and loved the romantic and authentic feel they produced in their film and photographs.”

“We both agree that our favourite moment was the ‘first look’ before the ceremony. Will hadn’t seen my dress yet but knew that I made it myself (this was pretty obvious by the white thread lying all around the house and the fact that I would yell out for him to stay outside if he came home while I was working on it). I was really nervous about whether or not he would like it. His reaction was awesome, and the look on his face was priceless. Needless to say, he was very happy with how it turned out and I was very happy to see how handsome he looked – it was a lovely moment.”

“When I was getting out of the car with my Dad to walk down the aisle, our dog Tillingtons, came running straight over to me and tried to jump on my dress (we stopped her just in time!). She had just been for a swim in the dam and was soaking wet! One of my younger brothers ran over and clipped her up to the lead rope, telling me he would take care of her. I stopped him and simply said ‘let her off – we want her to run around freely’. So he did, and she went over to the head of the aisle and lay down with a ball in her mouth while my bridesmaids walked down the aisle. Then, as my Dad and I started to walk down, she got up – ball still in mouth – and strode casually down the aisle in front of us, as my third bridesmaid! She walked all the way down the aisle, and when she got to the front, she stood between the best man and Will, facing the crowd – ball still in mouth! And the best bit? It was all caught on camera! She’s a little legend!”

“Gathering Events (the bar & bar staff) was used by a friend of ours for their wedding, but Renae also found them on Facebook and has followed their journey from the beginning, from when they started renovating the vintage caravan to when they started attending events. Gold Coast Tipis were used in a friend of a friend’s wedding and as soon as we saw them, we realised how unique they are and the type of magic that they can bring to an event. Our venue, The Farm House was recommended to us by Hannah from Gold Coast Tipis. Prestidge Catering we simply found by searching online – but we are so glad that we discovered them, as they were completely flexible, willing to please and served up a meal that had our guests talking! All of the staff from these vendors were helpful, friendly, relaxed, caring and went above-and-beyond to make sure we were okay and that everything ran smoothly. We could not have been happier with them!”

“We undertook many, many DIY projects! A majority of the wedding we did ourselves. We wanted to pour as much of ourselves into the event as possible, to show who we are as people and as a couple. The amount of DIY projects we undertook may seem ridiculous to some, but to us, it’s what made our day so especially ‘us’.”

“Renae made the cakes (there were three multi-tiered cakes: chocolate, white chocolate and carrot cake), she sewed the gift bags for the coffee, made the picnic table and the podium out of timber pallets, she made the candles, the guestbook. She roasted the coffee beans, refurbed my Grandma’s old, vintage croquet set, she made her own necklace, she refurbed a bunch of the ceremony chairs from old timber vintage chairs and painted them vintage colours. She is a very handy woman who knows how to handle a tool box. We also made the Limoncello together, which was quite a lot of work. My mum arranged all of the bouquets, lapel pins and main table arrangements, while our friend arranged the smaller table arrangements and the arbour arrangement. I made the bench seats for the ceremony, the arbour, the giant Jenga set and the swing (which turned out to be a huge hit!), as well as refurbed some of the antique chairs. We also used my Nan and Gramps’ vintage outdoor setting as our signing table – a setting which was once photographed for the local newspaper when my Nan & Gramps’ house was entered for styling! It fitted perfectly for what we wanted.”
