Nikita & Mathew’s country wedding was inspired by everything that they love together as a couple. They are both country folks at heart sharing a love for the outdoors and even have a small hobby farm with Deer in rural Victoria. They celebrated their vows with a short, simple courtyard ceremony followed by a relaxed, fun cocktail reception. To allow for a social atmosphere all of the formalities were kept to a minimum. As the ceremony and reception were held at the same venue the couples photos were taken prior to the ceremony so that they could kick off the party with their guests immediately after saying their vows.
“The moment we saw each other all ‘dressed-up’ for the first time was very private and personal, which was how we selfishly wanted it, without a crowd we were truly able to express our feelings. I will never forget that moment. We chose to have no bridesmaid or grooms only two flower girls (our 18month old daughter Navara and 2yr old niece Zara).”
“We choose to have a destination wedding in the Victorian High country (approximately 4 and ½ hours from our home town Lal Lal/Ballarat). The Victorian High country is a special place for us as a couple. It is our home away from home and some of the most memorable moments of our relationship have been spent whilst holidaying in Eurobin/Bright/Myrtleford. We wanted our wedding to be a weekend escape for our guest and let them see for themselves why we love the area so much.”
“I went to the effort to make little flower girl bouquets (using fake mini white roses and jute string) and special ordered shoes for my then 17month old daughter, only to have her refuse to hold the flowers and wear the shoes, instead (in true toddler fashion) she walked down the aisle bare foot and holding bubble wrap, which gave all a guests a laugh. Something’s just don’t go to plan on the day (especially when you have a toddler) and you just have to go with it, they are often the things you remember fondly and laugh about later!!!”
Rustic, vintage and woodland were the themes that Nikita & Mathew chose for their wedding and the colours throughout the day were hessian, ivory and a splash of vibrant red (which is Nikitas favourite colour!).
Their wedding favours were red, apple & rhubarb scented candles in glass jars which were personalised with jute string and black and gold labels as well as mini jam & honey jars with various wedding/love themed stickers.
“With Deer and amazing panoramic views that bring the outdoors inside, the Red Stag combined not only our passion for Deer but also our love of the Alpine region. Furthermore with fantastic customer service and luxury accommodation that allowed us to stay onsite with our daughter, the venue choice was a ‘no brainer’ for us.”
Nikita’s advice to brides to be: “After my wedding I was left wishing I had of got photos with several family members and friends. Things just get so hectic and it is hard to round everyone up. To avoid disappointment make sure you write a list in advance of all the family/group photos you would like to get and if possible give everyone the heads up beforehand!! Photos make great thankyou gifts!!”
