Maple Creek Music

Music is such an important part of a wedding. It’s often one of the first elements guests enjoy when arriving at your ceremony. I’m a massive fan of live musical duo’s or groups performing at weddings to really set the scene which is why I’m super excited to be sharing a little bit about Blue Mountain based group Maple Creek Music.

Share with us how Maple Creek Music came to be established?

We (Blake and Cass) started off as a little old duo in the pub/club live music scene. Cass had always wanted to perform in the wedding circuit and quickly started heading the duo in that direction. We loved it so much that it became our full time gig.

Can you tell us a little more about what Maple Creek Music can offer for weddings?

Maple Creek Duo is Blake and Cassie – that’s us! But, we have a few different options. We also expand into our 5 Piece Groove Machine (Drums, Bass, Guitar, Sax, Keys, Vocals) and offer a Duo & DJ Package which has Cass DJing the dance floor after duetting with Blake all day. Cass also MC’s the wedding receptions we play at too.

If you had to define your music as a certain style what would you describe it as?

A mixed bag of Allens Lollies! We play such a variety of styles – pop, rock, funk, country, that it’s hard to define it. Our style definitely has elements of all types of music which makes for a pretty unique band.

What would be your favourite wedding / couple that you’ve performed for and what made it so awesome?

We love party people. We love couples/weddings that are down to have an awesome time on the dance floor to finish up a beautiful day. We also love couple’s who are as chilled out as us.

For those who are really loving your style of music where are you based and do you travel for weddings?

We’re based in the Blue Mountains at the moment but, we travel far and wide and would love to join you at your wedding anywhere in NSW. Our favourite spots to perform at are The Blue Mountains, Macarthur, The Southern Highlands and out in the Central West.

What advice do you have for couples trying to select the perfect live entertainment for their weddings?

It can be daunting to pick what sort of entertainment you’re after, especially if this is your first time booking live music. Our advice is decide what sort of ‘vibe’ you’re after for the night. If you’re after a laid-back lunch time wedding, then an acoustic duo/soloist is a great option, if you’re after a killer party, then finding a package that includes a DJ or a larger band might suit your night better. Try and watch your potential band live if you can. There’s no better way to know if they’re the one than going to watch them and meet them after the show as well.

All too often weddings take place to an ipod soundtrack – why do you feel having a live performance at a wedding is so important and special?

Music is a powerful thing and it helps create stronger memories of particular moments. With live music, your special moments (as you walk down the aisle, have your first dance etc) become extra special and personalised. This version of your song is completely unique and creates such a different atmosphere to pressing play on a track.

When you’re not entertaining people what do you love to spend your time doing?

One of our favourite things to do is to chill out with a glass of wine in hand, eating sushi and our fabulous cheese platters. When we’re not rocking out or playing love songs, Blake’s probably out there writing country songs and playing every instrument under the sun and Cass is out there taking care of her new plant babies and watching/reading her favourite supernatural flick/book (she’s a little bit of a nerd hehe).
