Lucy & Rob’s Country Vintage Wedding

Having met while they were both in University, Lucy & Rob’s love story started as friends for a number of years.  “We had our first date in Japan after bonding over organising a trip with a group of friends together. We have since been on many amazing adventures together mostly involving hiking or skiing or the outdoors in some way.”

Lucy & Rob chose Cotmore Downs,  Rob’s family property in the Northern Rivers region, for their ceremony and reception location. “It is such a special place for us, we have so many memories there and it is the first place we went together after returning from Japan. Rob’s parents started the farm as a retirement project and have been fulfilling a lifelong dream of introducing the traditional Hereford cattle bloodline that Rob’s fathers family bred in Herefordshire in England.”

Being a country wedding, access to many facilities were limited, providing them with a more non-traditional wedding day. “We wanted a really relaxed and personal day with our closest family and friends.  We centred the celebration around the working shed on the property and had a caravan bar, antipasto station, lawn games and seating for everyone to relax and enjoy themselves after the ceremony. Later in the evening as the weather got significantly colder we lit 2 massive bonfires to keep everyone warm. It was pretty spectacular.”

Their day was absolutely filled with personal touches.  “We put a lot of hard work into creating things ourselves and it paid off. From the tables we built out of pallets, the metres and metres of bunting and table runners, timber signs, cake stand, seating chart and two giant bonfires. We both felt so happy and comfortable all day and wish we could have done it all again.”

“We had so much help from family and friends to make our wedding the perfect celebration of our marriage, we feel like the luckiest people in the world to be surrounded by such a generous group of people. Our wedding day was everything we could have hoped for and more.”

“My dress was simple but perfect. I went with my Mum and sister in law one afternoon and as soon as I tried this dress on they both said it was perfect and that was that. It is made from Italian lace and was made to fit me. The whole experience at Bertossi Brides was once in a lifetime – they made me feel so special.”

When it came to flowers, all Lucy really wanted was native flowers. “I didn’t really have a colour preference but I couldn’t have imagined more perfect bouquet and also the most amazing arbour arrangement. I have since dried my bouquet and it is on display at home.”

“Our native flower arrangement was absolutely perfect and incredibly beautiful however we did not anticipate that the native bees would love it just as much as we did. The sounds of bees buzzing over our heads throughout the ceremony made us a little nervous to start with but we have laughed about it a lot since then. You always have in the back of your mind that not everything will go to plan but there was no way we could have ever predicted this.”

Their favourite part of the day was the confetti! “Being introduced as Husband and wife and walking back down the isle grinning from ear to ear with everyone cheering and confetti being thrown by our family and friends. Including a very enthusiastic aunty who was determined to get the confetti right on top of our heads!”

Lucy & Rob chose We Are Twine for their wedding photographer.  “Amanda was fantastic – her attention to detail and enthusiasm were reflected perfectly in her amazing photos. It was incredible to be able to relive our special day through the photos she took. As two people not overly comfortable being photographed, she made us feel incredible comfortable and relaxed. Her professionalism on the day and polite determination in getting family members to appear in their assigned family photo was wonderful.”
