Sharing a love of water skiing, Kate & Nick realised that their relationship was something special a few weeks after meeting. They tied the knot at an intimate ceremony & reception at the rustic Driftwood Shed. Kate’s Aunty Cath who ended up being their wedding co-ordinator and celebrant, was the one who found their ideal venue, Driftwood Shed at Terara. It was on the Shoalhaven River with a huge shed full of all things antique, a pool table, bar, and had the relaxed vibe they were looking for. They imagined their guests enjoying drinks by the river exploring the gardens, games and shed; and beers, dancing and acoustic sessions by the fire at night. All that needed to be added was some greenery and fairy lights provided by their wonderfully supportive family.
With an outdoor venue, arrival by boat, plans for plenty of dancing and a love for 50’s inspired fashion, her dream gown had to be tea length. This seemed like an impossible task until Kate finally found Maria from Vellos Bridal at the Vintage Bride Wedding Fair in Coogee. Maria captured Kate’s vision with a capped-sleeve, lace gown. The gown was a combination of some of Kate’s 50’s inspired dresses she had started to collect and a dress she could dance as well as enjoy the day in. The process of designing her own dress was so personal and exciting with the result being a unique, comfortable and vintage-inspired dress that was such a pleasure to wear and everyone complimented her on that it was, “Just so you.” What more could you ask for?
Being on the river, there was no better way to arrive than by boat. Kate’s father had rebuilt an old wooden ski boat, perfect for their rustic, vintage theme. And so he began to make the preparations by building a ladder for the jetty so Kate could make a surprise entrance down the river where her and Nick had once skied together.
After thoroughly planning the secret entrance by boat, Kate’s Dad was so excited by being able to drive his daughter in their family boat to the wedding that he pulled into the jetty on the wrong side!
Katie Rivers Photography in Berry was an easy choice for Kate and Nick with Katie’s relaxed style capturing candid moments of the day. Katie utilised the stunning backdrop at Driftwood and ensured that the bridal party photos were a truly enjoyable part of the day. Looking back, the bride and groom barely noticed her presence and are in awe of every single image.
“Garnish Creative Catering offered tasting days where the family were able sample their menu to help narrow down all of the amazing options. The Garnish team were so friendly and attentive and guests raved about the delicious food that just kept on coming.”
The grounds of Driftwood were for hire from Friday morning to Sunday afternoon. It was all thanks to Kate and Nick’s wonderful family and friends who spent many hours cutting greenery from their gardens, setting up the marquee, arranging huge hanging gardens, fairy lights, chalkboard signs, bar, wedding arch, you name it, they did it! They had many talented friends and family who created a stunning cake, memorable ceremony, beautiful flowers and videography to capture their day in a way that was truly unique and personal.
