Jamie & Rick’s Rockin’ Picnic Wedding

How would a vintage pinup model celebrate their wedding day?  Well let’s step inside the wonderful day of Miss Cherry Wink (aka Jamie) and her husband Rick’s special day photographed by Inspired by Faith.  Everything from music to decorations was vintage inspired and the icing on the cake was their celebrant – Elvis!  It was important for Jamie & Rick that their wedding day be laid back and casual yet still formal and for everyone to smile – not cry (although I do spy quite a few tears of happiness throughout the day!!)

Jamie chose to break away from tradition by wearing a short 50s inspired tea length wedding dress and Rick wore a coloured shirt with his pants and vest.  As a nod to their fun nature, instead of a fresh floral bouquet, Jamie walked down the aisle with a bright and colourful candy bouquet.  Instead of a stuffy formal reception all of their family and friends came together for a relaxed outdoor picnic with everyone bringing along a plate (what a perfect way for a family to celebrate!).

Despite a lengthy engagement of 3.5 years much of that time was spent simply enjoying being engaged.  It wasn’t until news that friends were moving overseas who Jamie & Rick really wanted to share their day with that they really started getting busy planning.  In the end they had 52 days to plan their entire wedding!

“All our decorations, invites, aisle markings, favours and hair pieces were DIY. Our families spent every Saturday afternoon from the day we set a date, to the weekend before putting decorations together, crafting invites and itineraries.”

“I bought my dress 2 months after Ricky proposed. I drove past Bombshell Boutique with my Grandma and saw it in the window. I told her I had to have it so we went in and put it on layby. I was only casual at a newsagency at the time, and wasn’t able to pay the lay buy within the 6 weeks so my Mum helped me finish it in time. Over the three years we were engaged, I grew into the vintage style a lot and so when our date was set, I had my dress altered from floor length to knee length, and used the cut off fabric to create sleeves.”

Rick’s favourite moment was watching Jamie walk down the aisle. “I watched my future wife walk towards me – I just loved seeing her walk down the aisle because it really hit me at that time that this was it – this was the moment we were about to become husband and wife.”

Jamie wore her great Grandma’s brooch on her gown.  “Every bride on the McLean side of our family has worn this on her wedding day and today, the brooch is over 100 years old.”

“Our advice for other couples planning a wedding would be not to take anything to seriously – not everything will be perfect. We had a gazebo take flight, two giant balloons pop, a few lines of our vows not repeated when they should have been and some repeated when they shouldn’t have been – but this is all what makes your day, your day. Nothing in life is ever perfect – it’s the way you take it as it comes that makes it perfect.”

“My dance with my Dad was great – we started slow dancing and then burst out to “Shake Your Tail Feather” complete with tail feather shaking.”
