Getting to know you… My Darling Heart

My mother always taught me to say please and thank you, and what better way to say thank you to all of the wonderful people that make your wedding so memorable than with a gorgeous thank you gift. Favours are the perfect way to express your heartfelt thanks to friends and family that play such an important part in your life and on your wedding day.

So we chatted with the amazingly talented Katy from My Darling Heart about all things favours!

Can you tell us a bit about My Darling Heart?

My Darling Heart was born from my love of giving beautiful gifts and my belief that the packaging is just as important as what’s inside. And your wedding is the ultimate occasion to give a beautiful gift to those you love and send a little bit of yourself away with them. Including a vintage inspired handmade favour is one of those important little details that really bring your wedding style together and just make your wedding fun and memorable!

What inspires you to create your gorgeous favours?

So many things inspire me…I love anything vintage, pretty, original, rustic and one-of-a-kind, and all of these things inspire me to create my favours!

If you had to define your style what would it be?

This is very hard to do as I love design, interior decorating and weddings and my favourite style changes all the time! But if I had to choose I would say clean cut vintage chic with pops of colour and lots of detail.

Do you do custom orders?

I absolutely do custom orders and I love it when a couple ask me to create a custom favour for their wedding as it means they’ll be getting exactly what they want to give their guests. All of my designs can be altered and if you don’t see your perfect wedding favour in my shop you can bet I’d love to create it for you! And if you want to see a selection of my favours in person before you choose the design you want, you can order samples in my Etsy shop.

What’s your favourite wedding story?

Oh I have so many, but my favourite wedding story relating to favours is from a wedding in the US where the bride homebaked hundreds of the groom’s favourite muffin to give to their guests as favours, how cute is that?!

We’ve heard that you’re releasing a stunning new collection soon, tell us more about that!

I am releasing my new collection, Oranges & Lemons, at the showcase which is very exciting! Oranges & Lemons is mainly focused on bridal showers and high teas, and will feature favours for these occasions as well as decor including a bridal shower decor & favour kit and a bridesmaid’s thank you gift set. It’s a really fresh and fun collection with lots of pretty details. The range will be available for purchase in my Etsy shop in September but guests at the showcase will be able to see it first and order it on the night if they can’t wait til September!

What advice do you have for couples when they are thinking about favours?

My advice for couples when they are thinking about favours, and their wedding in general, is that you don’t have to do what everyone else is doing! You can give anything you like as a favour to your guests, from non edible favours like mini succulents or scrabble tile-magnets to homemade goodies like jam or cupcakes that your mum has lovingly made. This is your opportunity to thank your guests in style so use your imagination and let your personality shine through – your guests will love receiving a truly thoughtful (and beautifully packaged) gift from you!

How early should people order their favours before their big day?

Usually you only need to order your wedding favours about 3 months before your wedding date. All of the favours I offer are handmade and are made to order so that they receive the attention they deserve to make them perfect for your wedding day, so most orders take between 3 to 5 weeks from go to whoa. If you’re giving chocolate or macaron favours or anything else that may be effected by warm weather then it’s a good idea to arrange to have them delivered as close as possible to your wedding date, and then store them in an air conditioned room (not in the fridge!). I offer a delivery service for weddings in the South East Queensland area so you can have your handmade favours delivered to your venue on the day of your wedding and I also offer a hire + styling service for favour stations so I can set them up beautifully for you and make your favours a real focus point for your reception.

What do you think are the upcoming trends for 2012/2013 weddings?

Vintage is, of course, not going anywhere and the handmade trend is just going from strength to strength. I think any features or decor in a wedding which are lovingly custom made and original will continue to be popular, and smaller, more intimate weddings will be the way to go.

Thanks so much Katy for the chat!!  HUGS!
