Getting to know our Vintage Bride Wedding Fair vendors – Part 4

Vintage Bride headquarters is a flurry of excitement as we finish packing our bags and getting ready to hit the road to meet with all of the lovely Toowoomba and Darling Downs brides this weekend.  If you haven’t got your tickets online via our Toowoomba events page be sure to do so before our online ticket sales close on 5pm Friday (tomorrow).  Tickets will be available on the door for cash sales only, however in the likely event that we reach capacity in the venue space, those with pre purchased tickets will have priority entry to the event.  Queues can also be lengthy on our event day so if you are taking the time to come and visit us and our lovely vendors who can’t wait to meet you have some peace of mind by getting your tickets in advance.  The first 100 brides through the door with tickets already in their hot little hands will also receivea copy of our most recent back issue of our magazine.

We will also be offering our current issue of our magazine at a discounted rate of $10 for all who attend our event which is great value!!

As soon as possible as we believe we have the only Jaguars of these models licensed in Queensland to drive for weddings.

Do you have a favourite vintage car and what is the story behind it?

The Mark 10 was found in a poor state under a pile of tyres, forgotten behind a shed. It is now beautiful and purrs along the road after being carefully restored.

What do you think are the upcoming trends for 2014/2015 weddings?

Romantic, soft, modest dresses are on trend which suit our cars with their generous seating space.

What advice do you have for couples when they are thinking about hiring a wedding car?

As there are not many people providing this service, book as soon as the wedding date has been arranged.

What is your favourite wedding story?

The happy couple who enjoyed travelling in the car so much they wanted me to keep on driving… to Sydney…or Cairns…

Do you travel for weddings?

Yikes, yes for sure!

How would you describe your style?

Real, a little bit raw, totally honest and not perfect but with a dash of fun and creativity. Hopefully it makes you feel something.

How early should couples book with you?

Anytime really but most people tend to book around 12 months out so if you’d really love to work with me I guess around 12 months is good just to make sure I have your date free.

Why do you think photography is such an important part of a couple’s big day?

If a couple finds the photographer suited perfectly to them, then the images that photographer makes will eventually be exactly how the couple remembers their day. Memories are sure to fade but a photograph that captures the essence of the day will be forever. Plus these are the photos they will show their children and grandchildren. How important is that.

What advice do you have for couples when they are thinking about their photography?

Go with your heart. Also take your time to find a photographer that you really connect with personally. Nothing worse than spending one of the best days of your life with someone who you think is a twat. If you get on well personally and are confident in their work you are sure to feel relaxed and happy and this will translate into beautiful photographs. That’s just my opinion anyway.

What is your favourite thing about photography?

How important it is. It makes me feel special that I get to make pictures that become such a treasure for people. If make a beautiful picture of someone it can make them feel special.

Do you have a favourite wedding photograph?  What is the story behind it?

Nope. I am yet to make my favourite wedding photograph. This is going to sound super corny but I know I’m not perfect and I’m always trying to get better so I always think that my favourite image hasn’t happened yet. I think it makes me work hard.

What can couples expect when they visit your stand?

A really nice person! (Thats my husband Matt who always comes along to support me and is way better talking about me than I am!) Maybe ask him!

Silver Sixpence

Can you tell us a bit about Silver Sixpence?

Silver Sixpence is not your average bridal gown business.  I design and make vintage inspired wedding dresses with a specialty in tea length wedding dresses.  Silver Sixpence is a one woman show – I work with all of my brides closely to create the perfect wedding dress to suit their personality and wedding day and then make all of the gowns myself.

Where are you based and what areas do you service?

I’m based in Brisbane, however as I am one of the leading vintage reproduction bridal designers in Australia I have brides all over Australia and even the world as I ship to absolutely everyone.

How would you describe your design style?

Timeless, simple & elegant.  I believe it staying true to the classic design style of the past and designing gowns that will never date.

What advice do you have for brides choosing their wedding dress?

Firstly have a think about your own personality and also what style of wedding you are having when considering design ideas.  Definitely do some research online to check out what styles you may like, but don’t fall into the trap of pinning over 50 totally different gowns in pinterest or trying on hundreds of dresses as it will just confuse and overwhelm you!  You will know when you’ve found the dress because it will be the one dress you just can’t stop thinking about!

How early should brides look at booking in?

Ideally it’s great to book in 12 months in advance, even if you arent 100% decided on the exact design but you know that you would like to have me create your dress.  At the absolute latest, if I happen to have availability 6 months out can often be do-able.  There is quite a lengthy process for the entire custom design process, sourcing and ordering specific fabrics and then the creation of the pattern, calico mock up and fittings of the actual dress.

What do you love most about making wedding dresses?

I love everything about making wedding dresses.  I find it so exciting to learn about each of my brides’ special day and work together to create their dream dress.  Then when it’s time to start making the design it gets exciting all over again as I see it all come together.  Then the cherry on top is when I get a lovely little email from my brides sharing the most incredible shots of their wedding day and seeing how fabulous they look.  There is something so special about being the person who makes the most important dress in a girls life!

What do you think are the upcoming trends for 2014/2015 weddings?

I think we will continue to see a rise in popularity in tea length wedding dresses, also dresses with a touch of colour such as pale pinks and pale blue colours.  I also think we will see more gowns being made from fabrics that are not traditionally considered for brides such as cottons.

What can brides expect when they visit your stand?

They can expect to see me ready to have a good old chat with them about their wedding and their dress.  I’ll be bringing along some pictures of some of my gorgeous past brides as well as a book of design sketches to flick through for inspiration.  I’ll also be bringing a few of my sample gowns including my brand new “cherry blossom” gown.

Are you running any specials on the day?

Yes I will be actually.  I will have very special vouchers for brides who come and meet with me at the fair offering 15% off their Silver Sixpence gown for all new orders placed after the fair.

Can’t wait to see you there!!
