Getting to know… Brisbane Racing Club

Our great city of Brisbane is filled with hidden gems that are fantastic and unique venue options for the vintage loving couple.  Many of us have frocked up and taken part in equine festivities at Brisbane Racing Club (otherwise known as Eagle Farm Racecourse) but have we ever taken a peek inside some of the gorgeous heritage venues on the grounds?  The Vintage and Handmade Bride love this venue, which is the reason why we have used it in a few recent photo shoots (including a very gorgeous shoot that will be featured in Issue 2!!) and we’re also holding our February wedding fair there!

Can you tell us a bit about Brisbane Racing Club?

The Brisbane Racing Club (BRC) was formed on 1 July, 2009 – the result of a merger between the Queensland Turf Club (QTC) and Brisbane Turf Club (BTC). Beyond the vast outdoor event spaces at each racecourse, there is also more than 18 indoor spaces ideal for events.

Each function space offers a blend of heritage character and charm mixed with the cotemporary. From the raw, industrial St Leger Stand to the modern elegant Tote banquet hall, to the quaint Laboratory lounge bar, our venue promises a vast selection of event spaces ideal for weddings and celebrations.

Can you give us a run down on your venue and what options couples have with you?

Couples have the option to have both a magical Reception and Ceremony here at the Brisbane Racing Club. With the Ceremony situated under the shade of grand fig trees, or adjacent to the heritage St Leger Grandstand, BRC’s wedding ceremonies offer a unique and memorable option for you and your guests. We have many stunning function rooms available for your reception with a variety of wedding styles, whether it is a dining wedding including impressive plated meals for you and your guests or a Cocktail Style Wedding allowing your guests to mingle and enjoy finely prepared canapés.

How early should couples book their reception with you?

We recommend booking your reception with us as early as possible as we have many races days and other functions running throughout the year.

What do you think are the upcoming trends for 2013/2014 weddings?

One of the top wedding trends for the upcoming year is vintage and retro-inspired with a modern twist.

What advice do you have for couples when they are thinking about their reception?

Try and sit down together and talk about what is important for you and what you would like to incorporate in your day. Spend some time browsing wedding blogs and Pinterest and try to get an idea of some ideas you like – they will help you to choose the right venue, and know the venue will able to keep in with your ideas.

What is your favourite wedding story?

My favourite wedding had the theme “Love Story” and they carried this theme throughout the day. They had lots of personal touches in the event, books on tables, flowers, and quotes throughout the room and brought everything together. They sent thank-you notes after the wedding which told their “love story”. It was a very beautiful and thoughtful wedding.

What do you love most about being a wedding coordinator / wedding venue?

Weddings are such a special day in people’s lives, and to share a part in so many is very humbling. There is no greater feeling that hearing from happy couples after the event to hear you helped make such an important milestone so special.
