I have a little secret… well it’s not so secret in the Vintage Bride office but it’s a little known fact about me.
I am not a fan of floral wreaths. More specifically the style worn on a bride’s head.
Ok I’ve said it, I’ve put it out there to you all and I’m sure there will be a number of our readers who simply don’t agree with my position which of course I totally respect but it’s my view all the same. Firstly I don’t feel that they are all that vintage as veils were a must wear accessory in the past and this was generally accompanied with a tiara or simple hair accessories to help pin it in place. If you trawl through historic wedding images very rarely would you find a floral wreath, particularly an over-sized wreath unless you’re taking a trip back to the flower power times of the 60s/70s.
So what do I like? Well something that I do love is simple yet punchy floral accents and in particular a fabulous flower or floral piece pinned into an incredible 40s/50s style up do. If you too aren’t into a full on crown of flowers on your head for your wedding day but do love the idea of flowers, whether they are fresh flowers or hand crafted hair accessories I’ve got some ideas to share with you to recreate this darling look. Now not all of these images feature white or ivory flowers and for very good reason – sometimes it’s lovely to add a pop of colour in your hair to add a little fun to your day. The bonus is the equally gorgeous hair and makeup inspiration that accompany the super cute retro inspired hair flowers!
