How long have you been a wedding photographer? Tell us a little bit about the journey you went on to become a wedding photographer
I have been a wedding photographer for the past 7 years. My journey started helping another photographer out who needed a second shooter for a wedding at the last minute. From the moment we arrived and I took my first wedding photo I was hooked. I love the craziness, the fast pace and the romance of weddings.
There are so many elements I love about weddings. I love the fact that no two weddings are ever the same. I love capturing couples being themselves on one of the best days of their lives. I love capturing the details of their days. Lets face it, long after you have cut your wedding cake and danced your bridal waltz all that remains are your memories and of course your photos. The first time the groom sees his bride walking towards him still gives me such a buzz and makes me smile. Weddings for me are about capturing your story and telling it in the images captured. That’s just a few elements about weddings I love.
You are located in the Hunter Valley region which is such a picturesque place for weddings. What are your favourite areas and venues to shoot in?
I am truly blessed to live in the Hunter Valley as we are spoilt for choice when it comes to locations. Some of my favourite places are Petersens Champagne House, Iron Bark Vineyard, lets face it anywhere in the wine country is gorgeous. But I also love to shoot in Newcastle, we have some amazing beaches to choose from. I also love to shoot further up in the upper Hunter Valley and I have been lucky enough to shoot at one of the best horse studs in the world. Hunter Valley Gardens is also another favourite place, there is so much variety there that you never run out of choices. That’s just to name a few.
Do you shoot digital and film or simply digital?
I only shoot digital now, I do have a film camera but unfortunately being time poor stops me from delving into film.
What are your favourite photographic styles when it comes to shooting weddings?
My favourite photographic styles when it comes to shooting weddings has to be romance with a hint of vintage. Although shooting country weddings smack bang on a sheep farm was gorgeous as well. Having sheep and cows in the background and not worried about us was was amazing and a bridal party who were all so relaxed just topped that off. Different styled weddings do not phase me because at the end of the day I’m there to capture two people in love, I know it sounds corny but honestly that’s the truth.
Can you tell us a little bit about the packages that you offer for weddings & engagements along with a bit of a price guide?
I have one basic package, from bridal prep to the bridal waltz, (usually approx till 9pm) with this package you receive all suitable edited images on a usb, in a wooden box with a selection of prints. The cost for the package is $2400.00. I do however add on albums, prints and canvas if clients prefer. I believe in offering my couples what they want so I allow them to add on what they prefer.
When couples book EWi photography for their wedding are you a solo shooter or do you have the option for couples to book a second shooter as well?
When EWi Photography is booked to shoot weddings they get me, the person who has dealt with them from the very beginning of their journey. So there are no surprises on their wedding day. I do have second shooters if needed and I only hire reputable second shooters.
When you aren’t behind the camera what do you enjoy spending your time doing?
When I’m not behind the camera I’m spending time with my family. Taking them to sport on the weekends (when I’m not shooting weddings), I like to cook and garden but my family get my undivided attention when I’m not shooting weddings.
Do you have a limit of how many couples you book a month? When is the best time to book in?
I don’t have a limit of the number of couples I book per month. At the moment Im finding couples are booking me about 12 to 14 months out from their weddings.
Do you offer engagement packages or pre-wedding shoots? Do you walk through locations before the wedding / with the couple before hand? What other photography does EWi Photography do?
I offer engagement shoots for all my couples. They are complimentary when you book a wedding with EWi Photography. I believe its a great way for them to get to know me and for me to get to know them. It also relaxes people on their wedding day as they know who I am and how I shoot. I go to locations to explore before every wedding which enables me to look at the locations and find the best places to shoot. I do maternity, newborn, portrait and family photography. I love everything photography related. I have so many couples coming back to me to capture their pregnancy, then their newborns and so on. Its such a privilege and an honour for me that couples keep coming back and I can’t thank them enough for their loyalty and support.
