As so many vintage brides include a touch of DIY on their wedding days I thought today I would share some super cute downloadable crochet bolero / shrug patterns – some are vintage and some are modern but classic styles. Evenings, particularly in the cooler months, can be a little chilly even for an excitable bride so it’s handy to have a little something to throw over your shoulders during the reception. Crochet shrugs are so cute for vintage inspired weddings as they often have designs reminiscent of vintage lace and if you or someone close to you is handy with a crochet hook they are much less expensive.
Speaking from experience, if you’re a crafty little lady but have not crocheted before it’s surprisingly easy to learn the basics and create simple designs (although of course be sure to practice a few times and quite a bit before you need your final piece just in case!). There are plenty of books and online tutorials to teach the basics and when you are feeling a little more confident it’s time to look for a lovely pattern.
Most of the good patterns for download online are for purchase and not free, but they are not expensive and it’s money well spent as they look soooo sweet.
If you’re not sure about yarns always follow the advice on the pattern that you purchase although keep in mind that US yarn is named differently to ours. I like to stroll through the baby yarn aisles of my local craft stores and look for beautiful soft ivories in baby yarns as I know these will feel super soft on my skin compared to some of the more general yarns. Otherwise there are also varieties with a little bit of shimmer woven through in specialty yarns that would look lovely.
If you do crochet your own bolero for your wedding day I’d love to see some pics!
