Dana & Robby chose to have a destination wedding and Savannah was the perfect spot for them. They loved the idea of having a getaway for both themselves and their guests with a wedding ceremony taking place on New Year’s Eve. To add to the fun they chose a 1920’s speakeasy / great gatsby style for the event which included inviting guests to come along dressed in their most fabulous flapper outfits!
“We knew we wanted to capture the speakeasy vibe and with the beautifully eclectic and vintage vibe of Soho South Cafe, we knew it did not need much. We bought cigar boxes from our local cigar bar, Maxwell’s in Woodstock, GA and brought them to Savannah, where our florist and rental company, Carlson’s added floral design to each one of them. We also rented vintage chairs and couch for the bar, along with an LED sign “The Frederickses” which we had built specifically to make our own little speakeasy. I also bought a ton of signage with GATSBY quotes for throughout the wedding venue which added to the vibe.”
With the art deco / flapper style weddings it can all fall apart without the right outfits. It’s important to select gowns and suits which fit the classic vintage style but don’t look like a costume. Dana found the perfect dress when she stumbled across her beautiful Watters Too dress at White Magnolia in Atlanta. Her gown featured all over lace in a stunning art deco pattern with hints of glistening beading throughout. To complete the look she wore a 1920s style headpiece with pearls, beading and a feather.
Dana went for a fabulous alternative to fresh floral bouquets and it went perfectly with the art deco theme! “I actually bought a bunch of feather bouquets from another bride on instagram! I started following gatsbywedding on instagram and saw this beautiful bride with an amazing bouquet and DM’d her. She was so wonderful and let me buy a ton of decor from her. For the rest of the floral, we went with cigar box bouquets, and some floral centerpieces to add to the tables and ceremony backdrop.”
The speakeasy styling was carried throughout their ceremony and reception with art deco signage and even vintage style goodie bags for the kids. As the couple chose the one venue for both their ceremony and reception, Dana and Robby had the best idea to allow two completely different looks in the one location while keeping guests entertained at the same time! After their ceremony, guests were picked up by vintage trolleys and taken on a tour around the city (such a wonderful city brimming with historic architecture to enjoy I might add!!). While guests soaked up the city sights the venue and styling team did an amazing job of flipping the room and turning it into a glamorous sit down reception!
