Brittany & Matt knew from the outset they wanted an intimate, unique wedding including plenty of meaning and joyful elements.
“When we found Wyrallah Chapel and met the lovely caretaker Bryan, we decided we wanted to spend as much time there on the day as possible – so went for a ceremony in the Chapel and reception under a fig tree in the grounds.
Bryan shared the family history of his father who rode through the land during his time in the Light Horse Brigade, who later returned to build a home there – subsequently donating the land to the Church. Bryan later took on the role of caretaker to keep the Chapel open and maintained when the Church no longer operated.”
“For both Matt and I, these vintage and bohemian elements were about history, story and hope. Both of us have overcome significant challenges in our lives – through loss and hardships – to find happiness, joy and each other. Appreciating the narratives of all the special pieces we discovered and loved again, is very much in sync with what Matt and I experienced in finding each other.”
“It was a treasure to be able to wear the 1970’s Blue Bird earrings my mum managed to dig out of the back of a cupboard when that’s what I pictured wearing, having fond memories of them as a child. Coupled with the Blue Bird name plate brooch I received as a baby. I later found out that the Blue Bird is said to symbolise happiness, which is joyfully and genuinely the space we were in. Happiest day of our lives.”
Brittany’s friend Jacque hand-painted vintage watercolours on the menus the couple printed at home.
“With all of the happiness also came lots of love for those who were not present there on the day. However, our celebrant Lindy Cooke helped weave that in beautifully to reflect our beliefs.
A memorial charm I had ordered of Matt’s father Allan was also an acknowledgment on the day. I had tied it with ribbon to the back of Rhonda’s chair along with a sprig of Rosemary I had secretly cut from her garden that morning.”
“We were blessed with a bespoke cake adorned with native sugar flowers by a family friend – the same intricate lacework and cake decorating I had seen as a child in the cabinets of the local Agricultural shows.”
“We gradually added to the styling elements with an eclectic mix of carefully selected vintage pieces sourced from op-shops, markets, garage sales and buy, swap and sell sites which Matt and I refurbished together.
That included the 1930’s vintage pram purchased for $35 which Matt refurbished. We also found an original, intricate cot net to adorn it with for $2 from the local Salvation Army Op-Shop. That allowed us to splash out on an original 1930’s Teddy Bear from Etsy.
We loaned some items from friends and used some of our home decor and special trinkets to add meaning to the day – such as the rainbow blocks, Depression Glassware handed down to me from my Great Grandmother and a Wind in the Willows book.”
“There were so many parts of the day that were special – right from the chaos of DIY set-up (thankfully with some back-up from our beautiful local florists) to the shared family meal around a trestle table Matt had made from reclaimed lining boards and refurbished broken vintage chairs.”
To add to the overall vintage styling they made the decision to include Matt’s beloved vintage BSA with Goulding side-car.
“We are immensely grateful to our Photographer Bonnie, we helped capture our day in such an authentic way and could see all the hard work but also love & special touches we had put into our wedding day (& helped us pack up!).”
“Sharing our wedding story for us is about sharing hope. Not just for a beautiful wedding or even true love; but hope and belief that there is something special to be treasured in each of us and what we can create.”
