50s Country Hall Wedding – Chrissy & Marty

“Best day of our lives”… these are the words Marty uses to sum up his wedding to Chrissy, which took place in the gorgeous little historic Montville Village Hall.  After over 10 years together, travelling the world and then returning to the Sunshine Coast where Chrissy grew up, they tied the knot in such a fun 50s inspired way!

Photographer Bonnie Jenkins recalls, “marriage celebrant Paul Voge guided the couple in what was a very heartfelt ceremony, writing moving vows for each other ensured there was barely a dry eye amongst us. Set at the character filled Montville Village Hall, Chrissy and Marty’s family and friends helped in creating a wonderful atmosphere, preparing delicious food and cheer. I have never been to wedding where people got up and danced so quickly, from the time the music started until it finished the dance floor was at full capacity. We had such a cruisey and fun time in our photo shoot. Chrissy was relaxed, relieved and beaming and Marty couldn’t stop gushing over his beautiful bride Chrissy, repeatedly saying it was the best day of his life.”

“As expected, the bride was late, but due to really unfortunate circumstances. Chrissy’s hair was done by her sister-in-law, Heidi, and was due to start at 10am. However 20 minutes prior to starting, her daughter and flowergirl-to-be, Jazmine, fell and split her head open. Jazmine and Heidi were rushed to the Nambour Hospital. Luckily Jazmine’s injury was not too bad and she was seen to quickly and things got back on track. (The fact that Chrissy was half an hour late only made the groom nervous as the beer had begun flowing and all the guests started drinking in the meantime!)”

The ceremony was held in the garden adjacent Montville Village Hall, where the reception was held.

Five things which made their wedding special to them:
-A celebrant who was on the same wavelength as us – Paul Voge
-Writing our own vows
-Having a live band that was not your typical wedding covers band
-A photographer who was able to capture the moment
-No stiff traditions like a seating plan

I love this photo… there is something so special and surreal about the first moment you feel your brand new wedding band on your finger (when it’s legit, not when you’ve done the sneaky try on in your bedroom while waiting for the big day!!)

“Montville Village Hall was the ideal venue for our wedding and we could not have asked for a better venue. Right in the heart of the picturesque Montville, the backdrop of the Sunshine Coast and surrounding hinterlands during the ceremony provided the perfect setting for our wedding.
The hall was fantastic and once decorated provided the perfect atmosphere for a fantastic reception, with many personal touches which reflected our personalities.
The hall co-ordinator, Frith, was very helpful during the planning process and was always willing to make arrangements for viewing the hall and to provided us with all necessary details of what was included along with suggestions of how we may want to set the hall up on the day.” ~ Marty

Marty & Chrissy’s advice for future marrieds to be:
“Have the wedding you want to have and not the wedding that others expect of you. We were lucky in that we didn’t have too many external parties telling us how it had to be done. We got some great advise from our Celebrant, Paul, to not over do it keep it simple concentrate on only a couple of things and make them BIG. For us this was the live band (they were a hit!) and the hall. Remember it is a celebration and should be enjoyable.”

These candid moments that capture the essence of the day are just perfect.  The day is not about all of the stiff, posed portraits… it’s the moments like sharing a beer together as husband and wife!!

So cute… I love the little “cherry on top” touch!

Their first dance – “We had our really good friend, Dan Topp’s ‘rock n roll’ band, Lucky 13 play and decided on “You Really Got Me” by The Kinks as our wedding dance. We had not planned our dance prior to getting up and just improvised once we were there and we encouraged everyone to join us on the dance floor before the end of the song, this provided for a fantastic introduction to the nights entertainment. Nearly everyone in attendance was on the dance floor at least once during the night (even those who ‘never dance’).”
