When photographer Gloria from Catch Studio asked bridal jewellery designer Cynthia from Cynthier if she would like to collaborate on a 1920s styled photoshoot she simply couldn’t decline! “The 1920s is my absolute favourite period and biggest style inspiration. I love everything about this lavish period from the Art Deco details to the flappers fashion. When Baz Luhrman’s The Great Gatsby came out last year, this movie cemented the 1920s style as timeless,” explains Cynthia.
Gathering creatives who shared their same passion for the 1920s, their vision was to create a 1920s inspired wedding in a more contemporary way. Instead of the usual sit down dinner wedding reception, they chose to create a fun cocktail party inside the historic Botany Bay Hotel. To drink and be merry!
Going with a darker, sophisticated colour scheme of ivory, gold, black & deep reds, Alison from Visually Creative crafted elegant bouquets & floral arrangements to adorn the antique fireplace & sandstone walls of the hotel. Dahlias, Roses, Celosia, Carnations, Magnolia leaves & Amaranthus flowers were draped over her vast collection of vintage crystal glassware, against a modern black & gold backdrop. Some of the crystal vases were passed down from Alison’s grandparents, which makes a great ‘something old’ heirloom.
Why limit happy to an hour? A cocktail buffet table was completed with gorgeous gold calligraphy on black cocktail menu & drink coasters handwritten by Yeesum Lo. The drink coasters were definitely conversation pieces for the party, all with fun & quirky quotes.
The gorgeous models Hayley & Ashley wore stunning vintage inspired bridal gowns by Rhonda Hemmingway Couture. Full beaded & sequinned fluid gowns so reminiscent of the 1920s flappers were adorned with headpieces & jewellery by Cynthier. Mixing pearls with sparkling crystals and gold for that vintage glam look. The models were dolled up by Niki Simpson Hair & Makeup. The hair and makeup was inspired by the ladies of the Great Gatsby. Model Hayley’s look was a modern flapper with a soft faux bob, dark grey smokey eyes and dark wine lips. While Ashley’s look was more Daisy Buchanan-esque demure with violet smokey eyes, pink lips and a series of small romantic buns pinned to one side.
