Retro Backyard Wedding – Sam & Brendan

We love a craftsy backyard wedding, and this one really does take the cake – it’s filled with so much fun and colour.  Sam & Brendan chose the talented Lauren Bride Photography to capture their special day and Lauren has kindly shared their story with us.

Lauren Bride shares,

The couple, Sam and Brendan, are friends of mine and have been friends with each other since 1998. They’ve lead their own lives and have 7 children between them – but don’t liken them to the Brady Bunch – if anything the Von Traps are a better comparison!

Their wedding was in their back yard in Brisbane, Australia, surrounded by family, friends and their children.

Portraits were taken beforehand around their suburb – at the bowls club, at a bus stop and in neighbouring streets.

There was the theme of kewpie dolls throughout the wedding and they doubled as favours for guests. The groom and other males in the wedding party had toy dinosaurs incorporated into their buttonholes and many of the brooches in Sam’s bouquet were of significance to her, including some from her grandmother.

Aren’t those retro inspired pink sunglasses too cute for words!….. and a polka dot wedding dress… squeeee!!!

It is so refreshing to see a couple embracing our fabulous city of Brisbane.  So many of our classic landmark buildings are disappearing over the years, but there are still new elements to the city that can be a lot of fun for photography.

I must admit this is my favourite image, I bet Sam & Brendan sure did turn heads at their local bowls club and it’s always lovely to see strangers sharing their congratulations to the happy couple!

Ahh, what a delightful space – the ladies room of Holland Park Bowls Club

Sam & Brendans gorgeous children.  Kids can be what makes the day for couples who have a casual backyard wedding.  Check out those priceless looks!!

Photo props aren’t just fun for the big kids at a wedding, they can be a fabulous way to entertain the little people as well!

I love the leggo people on the cake!! It really does bring the family atmosphere of the day together!!
