Getting to know our Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Toowoomba vendors – Part 1

If you haven’t noticed, we now have online ticket sales up and running on our website for you to jump the queue and get your tickets for our upcoming Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Toowoomba on Sunday 25th May 2014.  This lovely one day only wedding fair will be held at the  Burke & Wills Hotel, Toowoomba and will see up to 30 fabulous Toowoomba and SE QLD wedding businesses come together to showcase their fabulous work.  Unlike so many gimmicky wedding fairs that are around today, we offer a simple yet incredibly inspirational and helpful wedding fair.  We bring together wedding vendors who share our feeling that couples shouldn’t be treated like a number and all believe very much in building lovely relationships with each and every one of their brides.

All of our vendors love a chat, and cannot wait to meet with you to chat about all of your wedding plans and help you with any specific questions you may have.  With so many fabulous vendors under the one roof you can easily book a huge amount of your wedding in the one day without all of the running around.  As a great deal of our vendors are Brisbane businesses who also service Toowoomba and the Darling Downs, we’re saving you the driving trip up to meet with them – you can simply come along to our event and meet them all right here in your own city!

In the lead up to this event we’ll be posting regularly to share with you a little more about some of the lovely businesses who will be there on the day.  It’s a great way to start to get to know them all a little and also for those who sadly can’t make it on the day to meet with each of them virtually (of course nothing beats coming in to see their work in person if you can make it on the day!)

Samara Hook Photography

Can you tell us a bit about Samara Hook Photography?

I started gaining a love for photography while my husband and I were living in the UK and travelling Europe… since then, even amongst having my 3 babies, I never really put the camera down.  I never intended to shoot weddings… I thought I would only like to shoot families, but I kind of fell into it and now… well now I’m hooked!

 Do you travel for weddings?

Most definitely! … I love to travel, but most of all I love to shoot a wedding which has heart … for the right weddings I do travel interstate … and I do have a valid passport 😉

How would you describe your style?

I’m definitely more on the documentary style of things, I use mainly natural light and try to encourage you to just be YOU in front of the camera… and while I do suggest poses from time to time, or line everyone up for the formal family photos… my main aim is to capture your day as it happens…  Maybe you’re a couple who love to party and have fun and your wedding day will reflect that… so I want to capture that.  Maybe you are a couple that have a precious and intimate circle of loved ones who you are choosing to celebrate with… I want to capture that.  My style is about telling your story…

There is a CS Lewis quote that I love and that sums up how I try to shoot… “No man who ever bothers with originality will ever be original… whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (no matter how many times its been told before) you will become original without ever having noticed.”

How early should couples book with you?

I only take on a limited number of weddings a year.  This is to ensure that I still get to spend weekend time with those I love most!  So honestly the earlier the better… but if you’re running close to the day and are not yet organised its always worth an email!

Why do you think photography is such an important part of a couple’s big day?

I think it’s such an important part of the wedding because at the end of the day its one of the only things you walk away with… I try to capture not just your wedding day but the connection between and the relationships you have with others so its more than just some posed or formal images … I try to tell the truth of the day… which is why there is no time limit on how long I stay – connections between people you love and intimate moments will not just fit into the 6 hours of ceremony and reception but in the moments in between, before and after…

What advice do you have for couples when they are thinking about their photography?

I think it’s important to find someone you feel comfortable around; photographers are often the only “vendor” who is with you every moment of the day… so make sure you “click”

If possible I like to meet my clients first, I believe the best images are made when we let our guards down and be honest… and you won’t do that if you are not comfortable around your photographer.
What is your favourite thing about photography?

I love that when I look at an image, I’m not just looking at the technical side… in all honestly that sometimes is the least important thing.  My favourite images are always those that evoke an emotional reaction, that draw me in, or that bring memories flooding back.

Do you have a favourite wedding photograph?  What is the story behind it?

Oooh… that’s a tough question!… I think I’d find it hard to pick a favourite image of the ones I have taken … So I’m going to say something a little different.  My absolute hands down favourite image taken on my wedding day is of my husband and I walking up the mountain where our reception was.  Our photographer had told us to walk down aways and walk back up again while he took some photos… It is not mind glowingly creative, it is not out of this world and it will probably never win an award.  However, to me it’s the most precious image of the whole day.  Because when I look at it all the emotions I was feeling in the second come flooding back, it was the first second the whole day where it was just my husband and me alone and no one able to hear our whispered conversations… we held hands, whispered to each other and walked to the top of the mountain. THat is why it’s my favourite image of the day.  That is what I seek to do for my couples on their wedding day.

What can couples expect when they visit your stand in May?

You’ll be able to see a few albums and images printed, but mostly, it’ll just be me! We’ll be able to have a chat and maybe get to know each other a tiny bit.  I love to hear about the couples I photograph and get to know them so please stop for a chat… regardless of wherever or not I end up shooting your wedding!

Are you running any specials on the day?

I am! I will be offering 10% off for any couple I meet at the fair!

Kerrie Barber-White Celebrant

Can you tell us a bit about being a celebrant?
Being a Civil Celebrant is the most creative and exciting work I have ever done. I have written 3 children’s books, so writing exciting, meaningful Ceremonies for my clients to suit their personalities, history and their own ideas is extremely rewarding.

Where are you based and what areas do you service?
I am Toowoomba and surrounding areas.Happy to travel wherever clients wish (will be a travelling fee from 30kms outside TWMBA CBD). Any day, and anytime.

What advice do you have for couples choosing their celebrant?
I advise all my prospective clients “You don’t buy the first dress, shoes, cake ect, so it is impetrative you choose the right Celebrant for you”.

Every Celebrant is different and you need to know your Celebrant will be there for you and support you though out the journey to ensure the client’s have the most amazing wedding day.

How early should couples book with you?
Ideally once a couple become engaged, they should book their Celebrant, venue and photographer.

Some months are very high peak and many people can be disappointed not to be able to choose the Celebrant of their choice. Once they have made their booking, paid their deposit, they can be rest assured their Ceremony is booked. 2016 Brides are already making their bookings and probably saving dollars!

What is your favourite wedding story?

Wow! Now that is a hard question! Everyone of my Ceremonies is individually written to reflect each unique couple. Every couple is different, history, stories ect, so I love writing their personal stories.

My web site will reflect on the variety of weddings I perform, country, vintage, medieval, picnic, chapels.

My favourites are the Ceremonies where the couple have had so much input, and are particular on everything that is said about the love and commitment they have for each other.

This makes their wedding day such an amazing celebration to be celebrated with the people they love, their family and friends.

What do you love most about being a celebrant?
Absolutely everything! From the initial first interview, getting to know each other, to writing corresponding (unlimited emails), rehearsal, to their special day.

Standing next to the Groom as his beautiful Bride walks down the aisle, he has a involuntary gasp, as his breathe is taken away. Only I hear that!

What do you think are the upcoming trends for 2014/2015 weddings?

I fell in love with vintage a few years ago, and I now see the trend is heading in this direction, soft colours, shorter dresses, feminine accessories, country fresh flowers, old suitcases. Soft elegant, romantic, clients are really looking for something a little different.

What can couples expect when they visit your stand at our fair?

‘Uniquely Your Way’, Is my personal and professional philosophy.
My stand represents who I am, a little different and very creative, a person who can represent the client whatever their requirements.

Are you running any specials on the day?

As my profession is extremely professional, I do not believe in ‘sales or specials.’

Remember you pay for what you get. Finding the cheapest service will probably give you just that – cheap service, and who wishes that on their wedding day?

I do offer a beautiful Vintage photo frame as a gift to the first couple who makes a booking for my services through this Expo.

What do you love most about hosting weddings?

Every wedding is different to the last so I never get bored with weddings.  The best part for me about a wedding is looking back and seeing family getting together (sometimes for the first time in years) relaxing and enjoying each others company at this special time.
